Doing good is good for business. Here’s one story.

Over the years, I’ve been privileged to learn about some amazing stories in real estate. People doing innovative things, or thinking outside the box. Patrick Ryan is one of them. He made doing good into good business.

It was a warm Chicago day, and Patrick had a hammer in his hand. But digital ads were on his mind.

As senior vice president and managing broker at Related Realty in the windy city, these two activities did actually fit together. He was participating in a company sponsored home build with the organization Giveback Homes. And he was thinking about how to get all his Related agents on the platform he was using for digital ads -- Adwerx.

Fortunately, he was working right next to Caroline Pinal, cofounder of Giveback Homes. And she knew exactly how Patrick could accomplish his goal.

Fast forward a few months. Related Realty partnered with us at Adwerx and the folks at Giveback Homes to launch “Agents for Change” ad campaigns, supporting a continuing initiative by Related Realty to build affordable homes for those in need in Chicago’s West Pullman neighborhood. Related Realty assumed the cost of the campaigns, which are available to brokers for marketing purposes, and donated ten percent to Giveback Homes for future builds.

“As brokers, much of our day is spent out in the field working in the neighborhoods that make Chicago such a vibrant and diverse city, so we encourage our agents to support those communities in any way possible,” said Patrick. “The partnership with Giveback Homes and Adwerx benefits both our brokers and the neighborhoods they do business in, giving them an opportunity to create housing that transforms lives and revitalizes entire communities house by house, block by block.”

“Homeownership is a universal dream, and we’re thrilled to do our part to help bring that dream to families everywhere,” I told Patrick. “The Related Realty team is doing the kind of community-based, socially-conscious business we love to see and in which we are privileged to take part.”

Giveback Homes members get access to a sizable digital toolkit, with seasonally appropriate social media graphics to help promote their participation in the program. It’s a powerful way for real estate agents to differentiate -- by tapping into the modern homeowner’s desire to transact with socially responsible companies.

In return, Adwerx customers who are Giveback Homes members can have a custom ad created, capturing the “Agent of Change” message.

“Our goal is to turn the act of buying and selling homes into an opportunity for social good,” said Blake Andrews, founder of Giveback Homes. “Together with Related Realty and Adwerx, whose campaign will help raise awareness among consumers, we will be able to make a significant impact for those in need both locally and globally while inspiring others to join the cause.”

I love to hear stories of how real estate professionals make giving back part of their brand. If you do this, please share!

the Real Estate industry is full of people who help the people in their communities. It is who we are to give back to the people and community we earn our living.  To give is to receive and very rewarding in the long run.

Thanks for sharing how you collaborated with another company to improve your community. Most of the Realtors I know and work with have their own ways of serving the community and its needs. Sometimes it's done with a group on a special project, and other times it's done through their City's needs or their Rotary connection as I have always done. Serving others is what life is all about.

Hi Jed. I'd like to thank you for this flattering acknowledgement that is totally not needed. I would like to give you and your organization just as much credit. Putting together something like this rarely happens or is a long drawn out process because too many times corporate interest, or as Pat Riley says "the disease of me", gets in the way and people have the mindset of "what's in it for me". I had one conversation about my vision with Adwerx and you were on board. We're proud to say our next home build is in June here in Chicago and another later this year in Mexico. In May we will have a Ride to Build at Soulcycle to raise money for even more home builds through our partnership with Give Back Homes www.givebackhomes.com...which is a no brainer organization for any Realtor to be affiliated with. Utilizing Adwerx sphere marketing our Brokers are able to narrow down the reach directly to their sphere who are more more open and on board with our cause of being
Agents for Change. Thank you again and don't be a stranger if you find yourself in Chicago.
