Tredyffrin Easttown homeowners gardening tip
Trudy is the big gardener in our family. I am just the hired, or rather free help, who does the lifting, digging, mowing and raking. As Tredyffrin Easttown homeowners this week we got our mulch down over the beds. Every year we discuss how much we are going to need. We opted for four yards, maybe we really needed five. A quick call to Main Line Gardens on Paoli Pike and the delivery was set up, they offer a discount for Berwyn homeowners so the delivery was almost free. We've been doing it for a long time, so most of the beds already have a good foundation and this was more of a top up, so even though we thought we could have done with five, I am pleased we settled on four.
It looks great with the tulips just opening up, now to keep the deer away.
Trudy is always trying new plants, and moving things around. We have several patios around the house. We sit on them at different times of day as the sun moves, we generally are trying to avoid sitting in direct sun for obvious reasons.
We have a patio we love at the back of the house, and because we live on a curving corner property we have tried over time to create privacy. We are still working on certain spots where anyone walking by, and we get lots of walkers in our neighborhood are not able to see us from the road. Lots of forsythia, burning bush, spirae etc along the edges of the yard, with various trees dotted here and there.
For the past few years we have grown this plant "Japonica Fallopea", it dies off each year and returns with an amazing growth spurt. Quite remarkable and great for providing privacy. During the summer the leaves are whitish, then as fall approaches it goes reddish. We use it on the stone wall I rebuilt last year to provide the privacy we want from neighbors on the patio I mentioned at the back of the house.
Here is video, put together with stop motion photos from last year showing the speed of growth of these plants. What plants do you use for creating privacy?
