Should I Inform Google That Their Calendar is Wrong?

Today on my Google calendar there is a notation, pre-filled by Google, that today, is Thomas Jefferson's birthday.  Hmm.  Seems I was about to write about Thomas Jefferson last year when I saw that same notation because he is one of my favorite founding fathers.  When I went to the graphics for the post, which included his gravestone at Monticello, I noticed a totally different birth date.  Not April 13th, as my Google calendar is suggesting, but April 2nd.

Trust the gravestone where he is buried at his home in Charlottesville, or Google?  I know many thing the Internet is all power and all knowing, but I'm going to stick with the actual date on his gravestone.

Thomas Jefferson's Gravestone

I think I would pursue it to see what happens with Google, or if you even get a response! I would trust the tombstone myself!

I saw that Thomas Jefferson notation on Google, as well, Chris Ann, but would have had no idea if it was right or wrong.

Even wikipedia has April 13th listed as Jefferson's birthday.  Perhaps the monument is wrong.

If you repeat a lie or error enough times, it becomes the truth.  Post it once on the internet and it's as good as carved in stone.  Unless you have a carved stone to prove otherwise.

So, both dates are (sort of) right. April 13th is the date he was born on our current calendar system, the Gregorian Calendar. However, when Jefferson was born the British Empire still used the Julian Calendar. On this system Jefferson was born on April 2nd. So, it is just an issue of methodology.

I am with you Chris Ann Cleland - I would rely upon the monument.  I like your analogy about leap year ... and interesting comment from Cody Carmen which splains it

If the tombstone said April 3, I could see them making the mistake or I could imagine the "1" was worn off on the stone. Seems like Cody Carmen got it figured out!

That is interesting, Chris Ann. I say this because one of my friends sent my husband a link to famous people with birthdays on April 13th, which happens to be his birthday. And out of all the names, the only name we recognized was Thomas Jefferson, and now, visual proof that even tHAT was wrong, LOL.

Chris Ann love it, catching MR Google being wrong... I look forward to see how this develops. I anticipate at some point in time you will win and Mr Google will come to his senses. Then I would expect a Feature Worthy Post from AR and your huge success story... until then let me just wish you a Happy Easter, Endre

Hi Chris, Love this post!  Who knew!  I think a gravestone would be more accurate than the internet. In this day and age, I don't trust anything that I can't verify through multiple sources.  You have the gravestone. How about the birth record at the department that handles that in VA. ??
