Top 10 WordPress Plugins for Real Estate

If you have a WordPress website, you probably use plugins to enhance everything about your site.

I get a lot of questions about WordPress Plugins. First, what are they and mostly which ones should I be using.

Plugins should solve a specific problem or provide a specific funtion. (source: Web Synthesis) They are add on applications or programs

Because I am targeting a real estate audience in this post, I will target my favorite plugins to you, my special readers.

Here are my fave Top 10 WordPress Plugins:

1.  Akismet is the best WordPress plugin to help reduce spam from comments and sharing.Akismet: Akismet is a spam fighting service that protects your WordPress sites from comment and contact form spam by cross checking your comments and spam against their global database of spam. It's free or you can upgrade to a higher level of protection.

2.  Jetpack. The jetpack plugin does so much and it's absolutely free. There just too many things that it does to list everything. However,  a few of my favorites are:

  • Widget Visibility
  • Sharing
  • Site States
  • Custom CSS
  • Commenting
  • Speling and Grammar; and
  • so much more!

3.  WP Smush. One of the main reasons your website may load slower is because of the images and graphics. Smush will condense your graphics' size to a faster loading size. Again, another free plugin.

4.  Leadin. Leadin is a Free,  easy to use marketing automation andd lead tracking plugin that gives you a better picture of the people who visit your website. Leadin offers a pop-up lead capture, collects these leads and puts them in your CRM.

5. WP Listings. WP listings is a great supplement to your IDX. It acts like and IDX without thesuper powers. You can also use WP Listings to create FREE Single Property Websites.

6.  The Yoast Plugin will help you get higher SEO from your posting. It actually gives you a score and gives suggestions to upgrade your score.Yoast. One of my absolute faves. Yoast allows you to see how you can upgrade your post with the proper SEO. If your post is not SEO Friendly, Yoast actually shows you what to do to improve the post. You will see a red dot if your post doesn't cut it. If you have nailed it, you will see a green dot and if it passes for "okay" you will see an orange dot. But Yoast will always tell you how to improve the post.

7.  Easy Testimonials. Again, Free! This polugin gies you many options for easily displaying your testimonials all over your website. Add sliding testimonial widges with unique skins and display your testimonials almost anyway you like.

8.  Tabby Responsive Tabs. If your theme does not have a built-in tab system, this is a great replacement. You can create responsvie tabs in your posts, pages or by adding simple short code inside the post editor. You migh use this plugin for various neighborhoods, price ranges or types of listings.

9.  WP Super Cache. This is a very fast caching engine for WordPress that creates static html files. When you don't cache your files, they are stored on the internet. It’s faster to get something from your hard disk than it is to get it from the internet.

10.  Sumome. This is a great lead conversion plugin. It's free and an easy way to increase your email subscribers. The plugin offers list builders, content analytics, heat maps, google analytics and so much more.

There are hundreds of other plugins that you might find. Sometimes I find plugins I didn't even know that I wanted!

Be aware that some plugins may not be current and so they may mess up your website. However, beware:

  • Some plugins are not made with the intent of helping you.
  • Some plugins may not be compatible with your theme or with the current version of WordPress.
  • Too many plugins can slow down your website and put a strain on your hosting and database.
  • Try to the free plugin before you commit to paying for a premium version.

So getting ready to install some plugins?

    • Make sure you have a current backup of your website and database.
    • Only upload one plugin at a time. This way if you get errors it's easier to diagnose your website.
    • Research the plugin you wish to download. It may sound like exactly what you need, but then once it's loaded, it causes angst with other plugins.

Finally, some diagnostic advice.

Check your wordpress website often to be certain that all the updates have been made and that they are all compatible.Keep track of when you added a new plugin or feature to your website. Sometimes you may end up with an issue with your website and it just might be that plugin. However, if something isn't working exactly right, the easiest place to start is to delete all your plugins and begin adding them back one at a time. Sometimes after that everything will work again, but sometimes you can figure out which plugin it was and don't re-install it.

Plugins can save you time, get better online exposure for you and your website and can enhance your WordPress website.

These plugins sound great and I am going to look into them for my site.  Being that I am very novice though, I need to check them out and make sure I know how they are supposed to be used.

Kathy Goldman thanks for your top 10 WP plugin list.  Just keeping up with the latest and greatest is a daunting task.  Which theme works best for your site?  How often do these plugins need updates.  Many times pressing that update button causes havoc which less skilled tekkies like me have no clue how to fix
