Yoga at Grace Cathedral - amazing stories

By
Real Estate Agent with Compass CA DRE# 01215160

One of the benefits of living where I do in San Francisco is that every Tuesday evening I can grab my yoga mat and walk to the top of Nob Hill, to Grace Cathedral, and join the 600-700 yogis who practice there each week.

One man I see most weeks is Charles Weinbar. In a wheelchair, he is an inspiration to anyone who might think, "I'm not in shape" or "I'm too old and stiff" or "I'm not as strong/lithe/limber as the 30-somethings who make up the majority of the attendees."

Watch his story as told to AARP, get inspired about what the human spirit can achieve, and join me in being thankful for Reverend Jude Harmon, yoga teacher Darrin Main, and the wonderful experience they provide the community week after week.

If you are living your San Francisco dream, why not come to Grace Cathedral for some yoga. Tuesdays evenings, 6:15-7:30 -- but plan to arrive by 5:45 to grab a spot on the floor for your mat. 700 people can fill even a huge space like Grace Cathedral. This is a donation-based class, so donate if you can ($15-$20 is a suggestion) but come even if you can't donate. You will be welcome.

Good morning, Ron and Alexandra Seigel - practicing yoga has a whole range of benefits, not the least of which is the sense of peace and acceptance it brings.

Interesting video, Lottie.  And it's very unusual for me to see all those people on the floor, right on top of the labyrinth walk, doing yoga at Grace Cathedral! We often stay on Nob Hill when we come to the City for shows at the Masonic. I like the view of Huntington Park from the Huntington, with Grace Cathedral off to the left. Seems very "San Francisco" to me.

Wow Lottie,  The ONE thing I am lagging on is getting back into daily exercise. I did rejoin a local gym BUT I am not back to being consistent ... yet.  This is truly inspiring.

Hi Kathleen Daniels - some of us just aren't gym rats; I finally found some pilates and fitness classes at CPMC that I enjoy, but--they are cancelling all wellness classes at the end of June. I guess I have to go on the search again. I need something to complement the hiking and yoga.

Hello Belinda Spillman - the human spirit is amazing. This wheelchair-bound man is truly an inspiration. When I think I'm tired, or the hill seems too steep, I think of Charles and keep going!

600-700 people practicing yoga together is huge, Kasey & John Boles and the team at Jon Gosche Real Estate, LLC  - I thought it would be noisy and chaotic, but it's the complete opposite. Amazing.

Lottie,

Thank you for inspiring me with this beautiful story. The man with MS has more courage and strength than me. His story really moved me to tears. I wish I could visit Grace Cathedral. You photograph at the start of this post was also inspiring. I just knew I had to read every word you wrote and listen to the video.

After all the horror stories on the Media, this post is exactly what I needed to see and hear.

Thank you!

Hi Debbie Reynolds - I discovered yoga over 20 years ago - my practice waxes and wanes, but Tuesday nights at Grace Cathedral is a "must" in my book.

Good morning, Jeff Dowler - I hope you and family had a wonderful Easter! I'm glad you enjoyed the video of Charles Weinberg's inspirational attitude. Tuesday nights at Grace Cathedral are a 'don't miss' for me. It's a rare Tuesday when I don't join the many others.

Hi Patricia Feager - of all my AR friends, you are the one who would appreciate Yoga at Grace Cathedral the most I think. When we look for good news and inspiration, it's not hard to find and can drown out the negativity that bombards us all too often.

Wishing you a joyful week,

Good morning Grant Schneider - feel free to send the video or blog post to anyone who might benefit from this - your yoga teacher friends, too. You won't find a class with 700 people, but that's not the point -- chair yoga is taught in many places.
