Rose of Sharon, Kentlands Photowalk, Gaithersburg, MD USA IMG 0112
Rose of Sharon is a popular shrub in Kentlands, our home community within the City of Gaithersburg, Maryland. The name may be confusing to some because this is not a rose and these are not rose bushes. Rose of Sharon, Hibiscus syriacus, is a flowering shrub that can reach the height of a small tree. They have a long summertime blooming period. By the way, cuttings can be used in vase arrangements. This is the national flower of South Korea.
Subhash Sharma "Despite it's confusing name this 'Rose of Sharon' looks quite exquisite. While this name has been applied to several different species of flowering plants in different parts of the world in the US this name has been to Hibiscus syriacus. Varying scholars have suggested that the biblical 'Rose of Sharon' may be one of plants which include a Crocus, Tulip, Lilium or a daffodil (Narcissus). However taking this as a flower of white hibiscus the message conveyed by this 'Rose of Sharon' would the symbol of divinity, innocence, purity and royal beauty. A breath-taking plant that will surely blow anyone’s mind away!"
