The former Motorola Solutions office park at 8000 W. Sunrise Blvd Boulevard in Plantation, Fl. has undergone a $35.0 million makeover. Originally opened in 1971, the sprawling complex on such a coveted corner, looked partially abandoned in recent years as Motorola, its only tenant, downsized its operations.
In 2013, the office park was purchased by Torburn Partners of Northbrook, Illinois for $38.1 million; Torburn agreed to lease about 1/3 of the 850,000 square foot space to Motorola. Now joining Motorola are new office tenants Magic Leap, a company which develops entertainment technology products and Amsurg Corp, a health care company. The center can accomodate 3,000 workers.
The campus' makeover is dramatic. Renamed "Plantation Pointe", it will soon be home to 7 new restaurants, including Chipotle's, Panda Express & Starbucks (expected to open in May 2017), a fitness center, a jogging trail & pedestrian walkways. Also planned for the site is Baptist South's 150,000 square foot endoscopy center, and a Walgreens store. The reinvigorated center is expected to add to the city's tax base and makes efficient use of existing, valuable commercial real estate, making this project a win-win for both the city, its residents and workers.
Congratulations to the city of Plantation, Fl and the Torburn Group!
