Networking Has Become Profiling | Old School Marketing Made New !!
I have learn so much here in the rain and one Marketing Guru is Barbara Todaro that I learn from all the time. Thank You Barbra!
Networking has always been a favorite method of marketing for me. Yes, it’s another “offline and very old school” method, but what a powerful way to become known and secure business. The results have always been positive and steady flowing for me, and for that, I’ll always be thankful.
Networking requires more than being visible in a crowd. Networking is a test of how much of a chameleon one is, in my opinion. I’ve witnessed many within a gathering of people, and those who can blend into a conversation have the first step under control.
Success with networking goes beyond participating in a conversation. People like to be around people who remind them of themselves. They have a common ground; a similar mindset on a variety of topics; and are usually not as boisterous as the other person. Two people speaking over each other are a “no go.”
One needs to be a listener. The other can be a gabber. Two gabbers don’t cut it!!! This is networking, not best friends hanging out together. This is a scenario where one thinks he/she is the leader, and the other blends into that thought process. There can only be one leader!!!!
Networking is with a group of people who have never met you. Initial impressions are critical, and as a potential buyer experiences when seeing a house, they are lasting. You have a few seconds to profile.
Profiling is the key to networking. If you don’t profile the person properly, and that person is within the wrong category, you won’t mesh. Transparency is not introduced until after you’ve mastered treading gently.
Networking eventually becomes a very comfortable setting with acceptance and a relaxed atmosphere. Your guard can come down and you can blend in with “the gang.” Business will flow your way, and referrals will continue. A perfect example of networking is joining ActiveRain. I can remember when I first joined, I did tread very lightly and most humbly. Well, that’s history!!!! Now I share my thoughts openly and notoriously. Gives me a chuckle every day!
The best part of networking within your marketplace is that it’s FREE. It is old school, and it’s a proven method of marketing successfully. Most eliminate it and assume it takes too much time. If you’re newly licensed and just getting off the blocks, you have all the time in the world.
