Pee Pee, Poop and

Not So Puny Pet Peeve Ponderings

ActiveRain pal and pie provocateur Kathleen Daniels in her No Fooling Around, Let’s Get Real Contest has proposed we put our thoughts about pet peeves in writing.   I wondered about her motivation(as I often do). Hmm...For posterity’s sake?  Or perhaps as incriminating evidence when the straw inevitably breaks that camel’s back.  Hmm, I digress.  And then I ponder....

Let’s face it...we face a certain amount of “stuff” during a day...let alone over the course of a career in the real estate industry.  Don't get me wrong...much of life in real estate is good -- in fact for me, an overwhelming amount of good but, let’s be real - there’s some bad stuff that happens on occasion.   In fact, Kathleen founded and moderates a group here on ActiveRain

Crap-tacular where we have the opportunity to share the cringeworthy stuff we encounter.

Yes, although there is some pee pee, poop and puny pet peeves that may cross our paths...in truth...most of these types of occurrences are rare.  Come on...really...they are.

Yet I nodded in agreement as I read many of the pet peeves already shared as entries in Kathleen’s contest.    I had more than a few examples I could share as well:

  • Toilet seats up in photos...come on do we really need to see a toilet at all -- we can ass-u-me that a bathroom has this fixture in place.
  • Finding lockboxes in the most unusual of places where some Simone Biles-like moves to pivot are necessary in order to open.
  • How about the property sign rider that states “I’m Gorgeous Inside” yet rarely, if ever, is?
  • The mls remarks that insist there’s No Need To Preview a listing --- yeah, right... because if you do...you will never...ever think of showing this home to a prospective client.   I find that particular line a real red flag.
  • The listing agent who states “easy to show” in the mls remarks only to have confusing and contradictory instructions that makes Linda Blair’s performance in The Exorcist look like a nun’s visit to the confessional.

As you can see I can get easily miffed...if I allow myself.   I admit and I know...my biggest pet peeve is me.  And I’m in control of this...I suffer from a malady widely known as impatience.   I can’t stand waiting.   Waiting for people.  Waiting for responses.  Waiting for decisions to be made.  Waiting. You don’t want to see me in traffic...or rolling my shopping cart down the aisle of the grocery store.   Dammit!  Just hurry up.  Yes, real estate often involves a lot of  “hurry up and wait”.

Yet I have learned to manage.  Medication helps err I mean meditation. Focus too. Think of solutions...not problems...I may not always be in control of the situation(dammit again) but I can be in control of my reaction...if I continue to repeat that...it becomes truth...right?

But waiting still bugs the Hell out of me...

As I’m prone to do...I ponder...and then I digress and then I search for an answer that perhaps could be found in the words of others.  So here it goes...on the subject of pet peeves I share some quotes --- I can relate to these...how about you?

I don’t have pet peeves like some people.

I have whole kernels of irritation

Whoopi Goldberg

Peeves do not make make very good pets

Bo Bennett

And perhaps my favorite:

I don’t have pet peeves - I have major psychotic f#*$!^g hatreds!

George Carlin

Here’s to managing pet peeves...it really is possible...now, I think I’ll go on a walk.  Or engage. In an adult beverage for example.   Or maybe take this as an opportunity to channel George Carlin.  And the seven words you can’t say on television.   Have a  f#*$!^g amazing day. Thank you for allowing me to ponder.

Talk about a big poo poo in the middle of my day. I wonder how many rolls of TP it took to write this and enjoying it so much, how many it will take to forget all my asinine moments in this business. We both may find too much BS especially given how long we have done this but there is one consequence. FLUSH TWICE cheers cvc my 1.5 cents at an attempt of tile laden humor.

Very funny post and the title just made me wonder what it was about. Hurry up and wait is what we Realtors seem to do a lot and then all of a sudden it is "We must get it done right now in the next 3 days". What happened to the last weeks when nothing happened on your end? Yes a drink is a good way to relax or even a cold Diet Coke is nice!

Michael, you drew me in with your title and then quickly turned the corner.

I pretty much agree with your rant on things that irritate you in a royal way.

I just looked up a listing on MLS and the description was exciting. The price was mid $400,000s. I think looked at the photos. Oh my word!!! They were horrible. Dark ones and blurred ones. One shot in the kitchen with the cabinet door open with a pull out shelf out and a bunch of junk piled on it. A bedroom that was piled with clothes and junk on all the furniture. Every photo made me want to red line the price. I decided not to even show it.

I am extremely impatient as well. If one of my team members doesn't pick up when I call to pass on a lead, I'll wait 10 minutes and call back, and I'll keep on calling until they answer the phone, so they know they better do it sooner than later because they are also bombarded by text messages and emails. It's hard to get an agent's attention sometimes, especially when I have an eager buyer who wants to talk to them.

Michael Jacobs ~ MJ, great stuff! The biggest take I get from the f#^*!&% amazing post is "management!" We will encounter things all the time that bug us. Some that are out of our control and even some we have control over but no matter what "how we react and act" matters most and will determine our success
