How to Help Kids Transition to a New Home in Providence PlantationHow to Help Kids Transition to a New Home in Charlotte

Moving to a house for sale in Myers Park is an exciting time for the whole family. However, for little ones, it can also be especially overwhelming. Whether you are moving from a different state or are just moving across town, children have attachments that are difficult to leave behind. Read this article for helpful tips on how to help kids transition to a new home successfully!

Helping Babies and Toddlers

Babies and toddlers are generally the easiest age bracket to move. A few simple practices can ease anxiety and fear associated with change. For example, find some storybooks at your local library that tell about the adventures of moving.

Throughout the moving process, it is best to keep a few of your toddler’s favorite items with them at all times to instill a sense of security. Give it some time. Your little tyke is sure to fall in love with a Lake Norman home for sale too!

Helping School Age Children

Elementary and middle school kids are a bit more tricky to transition due to the added mix of a new school. They are dealing with the loss of old friends and the pressures that go along with making new ones.

To help your child, plan a school visit ahead of time so they can start getting settled in. If possible, visit their specific classroom and try to set up a meeting with their assigned teacher. Establishing familiarity before the first day of school will greatly diminish lingering fears.

Helping Teens

Moving teenagers often results in some form of rebellion. The connections made at their old home are often strong, and leaving those behind will likely make them feel angry.

If you’re moving in the middle of a school year, parents often decide to let their teen stay with friends or family to at least finish the year. Once it’s time to move, make sure to create a special space for them in a Providence Plantation house for sale!

Claude Cross What a lovely thought, helping your clients with the stress on the young people. My son and I have moved a few times. I found that letting him be involved as much as he could with the process of moving always helped. And letting him have at least some control over his "environment" - his room - for example by letting him pick a piece of furniture or the paint color. And if the family is moving to a really "foreign" place, not just across town, but to a new city, for example, it can really help to have a few fun places lined up to visit ASAP. Nothing like taking kids to a new aquarium, zoo, amusement park, fill-in-their-favorite blank, to help 'em acclimate.
