Now that's an interesting tree trunk. Wonder if that's normal, or some sort of weird growth...

Joanna,
It was fun reading the comments and what the picture evokes. To me it looks like the tree is holding on for dear life. A
Good morning, Joanna -- not freaky to me at all --- another one of nature's delights and certainly a conversation starter.

It immediately struck me as people praying. What's fun about this is it can be interpreted in so many different ways. Thanks for sharing Joanna!

Looks like a big beast from Game of Thrones in need of a pedicure. I love it! D

Hi there Rebecca Gaujot and Dorie Dillard - I love your interpretation of this photo-I agree - it does look like puppies!
No question about the pedicure Debb Janes EcoBroker and Bernie Stea JD and Ed Silva and Barbara Todaro - those toenails are very gnarly.
I love that everyone sees so much in the photo - this tree was absolutely amazing!
Good afternoon Doug Dawes and Raymond E. Camp and Harry F. D'Elia and Debe Maxwell, CRS - it is so much fun to just look at a photo and try to give it some meaning-everyone projects so much of who they are when I post a wordless wednesday photo!

Hey Kat Palmiotti and Nina Hollander and Ron and Alexandra Seigel and Michael Jacobs - at first I thought the tree, found in Japan Sheila Anderson - was so ugly that I could hardly look at it. It reminded me of some weird deformity- but then I started to see beauty in this deformity because it must be a way for the tree to preserve itself as it looked pretty healthy from the growth of its leaves.

Hi there Grant Schneider - where have you seen something like this? In Armonk???
Not at all but somewhere in my travels. Not as big as this one.
Rams Head (my thought, amongst many), puppies clamoring for attention, old knarled feet, praying hands, and Game of Thrones...wow.
I just saw a beauty of wabi sabi with thousands of years of earth memories to share.

Thank you very much for sharing your photograph.
Have an outstanding week with your camera in hand.
What an interesting tree. It looks like little gnomes hovering around the tree base. I enjoyed this, Joanna.
