With Tiny Houses all the rave right now, many people are considering building shed into mini houses. Houselogic posted an article recently about whether its worth it or not.
If you considering going for the extra expense, consider what your future plans are. If your planning on selling your home, you may have a hard time with a livable shed in the yard. “I’d put it in the category of a pool,” REALTOR® Micki Sanderson says of livable sheds in her Amherst, Mass., market. "Add one for your own enjoyment, but don’t expect it to bring big bucks".
According to the American National Standards Institute’s appraising standards, these sheds are not calculated into a home’s “general floor area” of finished square footage.A shed’s resale value is limited, in part, because they are considered “outbuildings” or “accessory structures.”
On the other side, realtor Diane Taillon in Ephraim, Wis., believes they have the opportunity to increase a home’s desirability. “It definitely, in my opinion, helps sell homes. It’s an amenity that is so attractive".
Sheds can be used for a variety of resons, including but certaintly not limited to; a larger reading nook, yoga room, or paint or craft studio, or craftsman shop. If you already have a great idea for your livable shed, have you really considered the costs?

In some cases, you may be able to buy a kit and save on a few hundred dollars. Make sure whether you build or buy a livable customized shed, that you prepare for your local climate as well. After time and money being invested, you would not want to see it come crumbling down.
