One of my disappointments in this market is also the agents. In many offices, you could fire a cannon through the office and never hit anyone. Since I teach continuing education at the association, we have seen more than 50% fall off in attendance. Doesn't it make sense that agents would take this opportunity to attend those classes that they were too buzy to attend before. If you are an agent reading this, please take advantage of this opportunity to improve your skills. Remember Steven Covey's 7 Habits of Highly Successful People? One of them was .....Sharpen your Axe. Also, what a great time to start farming or a personal data base.
In this down market I have bought into the Hobbs/Herder personal marketing, I've increased my direct mail and email marketing, I've developed databases, I've gotten Quality Service Certified and I've spent a small fortune to get my name out there. I have about 1% of the entire MLS listings; I'm getting phone calls but nothing under contract. I'm working in hopes that it will pay off in the long run, but it's pretty painful right now not seeing the fruits of my labors. This too shall pass!
I'm a 2nd year Realtor and have closed 12 so far this year. Not too bad compared to some others I've heard. Instead of sitting around...get busy! If you don't find those buyers, I will!
Guy, I totally agree with you. I take every class I can get my hands on. Even if it's material I am already familiar with, I always come away with some new idea. And, it's not a bad market. There are agents out there making a killing working with FSBO's and expired.
