On April 25, 2017, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the U.S. Census Bureau reported nationwide new single family home sales rose 5.8% to an annual rate of 621,000 homes in March of 2017 from 587,000 homes in February of 2017, and gained 15.6% from in March of 2016 an annual rate of 537,000 homes. The median new home sold value was $315,100, while the average sales price was $388,200 in March of 2017, and there were estimated 268,000 new houses for sale and 5.2 months supplies of available inventory at the end of March of 2017.

Regionally, new homes sales in the Northeast jumped 25.8% in March of 2017 from February of 2017, and rose 21.9% from March of 2016. In the Midwest new homes sales declined 4.5% in March of 2017 from February of 2017, but increased 23.5% from March of 2016. In the South new homes sales were higher 1.6% in March of 2017 from February of 2017, and up 5.9% from March of 2016. In the West new homes sales rose 16.7% in March of 2017 from February of 2017, and jumped 32.6% from March of 2016.
