2017 Carlsbad Village Faire is May 7 in Carlsbad California

Fair season is upon us, and if you looking for something fun to do over the first weekend in May, then North San Diego County’s most popular arts and craft fair may be just for you. Time to get in on your calendar!

The Carlsbad Village Faire takes place on Sunday May 7 in downtown Carlsbad Village.

The Carlsbad Village Faire, the 43rd this year, is reportedly the nation’s, and San Diego County’s, largest 1-day outdoor street fair, covering about 14 blocks in the heart of the Village. As in the past, the fair will be held along Grand Avenue from Carlsbad Boulevard to Jefferson and spills over onto side streets including State Street.

The Carlsbad Village Faire, one of two each year (the other is in November), is an impressive event, open from 8 am until 5 pm, with something for everyone between the fair vendors and all the local retailers. You can expect a crowd of around 100,000 people attending, with over around 800 vendors (clothing, arts and crafts, gift items, collectibles, accessories, plants and garden items, antiques, products from around the world, and much more), and numerous food booths at the International Food Court, and the annual Kiwanis Club Pancake Breakfast at the Carlsbad Train Depot from 7 am until noon, a favorite for 25 years.

When you get tired of visiting all the vendors you might enjoy the wealth of restaurants and retailers in the Carlsbad Village area on the various side streets. And the Carlsbad beaches are just a couple of blocks away for a walk before or after the fair, if you have the energy.

Parking is very limited due to the crowds so plan to arrive early – the good news is parking is free in Carlsbad. You might also consider the parking lot by Sears at The Shoppes at Carlsbad (at the 78 and El Camino Real/Jefferson), and the Poinsettia Coaster Station on Avenida Encinas between Palomar Airport Road and Poinsettia, with free shuttles available throughout the day.

Good morning, Jeff --- your feature photo reminds me although I have seen the signs for years -- err decades -- I've never tried a funnel cake.   You know...I don't felt I was missing anything but maybe I am...

Wow, 14 blocks of a Fair in Carlsbad? How in the world do you have enough time to see all of it? I dropped in on a street faire in Lodi (of Creedence Clearwater fame) last year, and never made it past the 6-block mark.

Hi Jim Cheney  Not sure we will make it this  year - plans with family!

Elizabeth Weintraub Sacramento Real Estate Agent, Top 1% of Lyon Agents  - it's HUGE. You would have the spend the day...and I have no patience for that. A couple of hours and I'm done! I suppose if you are a professional fair-goer it's a breeze.

With that many vendors and over 100,000 people it seems the word Faire, regardless of how you spell it is insufficient
