My phone started ringing last night with family members calling.  First my dad called, he wanted me to know he missed me and understood why I am not there, but the lighting bugs are flying and they are my calling card.

Then my sister Stacy called to say they were going to play poker and wished I was there.  Then Sheila called she had been Cat fishing which I love and agin she wished I was there.

You see, up until about 4 years ago I had never seen my dad or a lighting bug and did not know I had 3 other sisters.  We celebrate our finding eachother every May.  May of 2004 was the first time I laid eyes on Texas and the first time I met my Texas family.

Since then every April or May and again in the fall I visit.  We catch up tell stories that many others have heard time and time again but they are totally new to me and mine to them.

I generally am there for Mother's Day - and tomorrow is Mother's Day - and I am in Oregon.  Oh how I want to be in Texas - I want to see the lighting bugs, hug my sisters - play poker with my brother in law and just hang out with the family.

This year with Mike being down, Oregon will have to do... maybe in the fall but I don't want to get my hopes up.

One of the great things about ActiveRain is I can always get a taste of Texas - have you noticed the great agents we have in Texas that are ActiveRain members.  Not sure where these guys were when I was thinking of moving to Texas... but sure glad I know them now - because if I did make that decision I know where to find a good agent.

Thanks all you Texas folks for giving me a slice of my home away from home.

Thesa - Wow, I didn't know much of this about you. The thing about AR is you can get a taste of wonderful areas across the country. I hope you and yours have a wonderful Mother's Day!

Thesa sorry you can't make the trip but I hope it will be possible in the fall.  I agree there is really a great bunch of agents here from Texas and I am getting to know Texas through there postings and sense of humor.

Thesa - what a great post and how fun to have found all this family!  Amazing what life brings us - I too found family in 2001 or 2002 and they are all in WA state but I seldom get there....this reminds me to send off a mother's day card to my Aunt (the family I found and didn't know I had).

Hi Thesa:  Just let me add my thoughts on how I, too, wish you could be in Texas with your family.  Perhaps coming down here in the Fall will work for you.  I'd love to meet up with you if you make the trip.  Take care...

Thesa, what a wonderful post.  I've often said that Texas is as much a state of mind as place, but there's nothing like being here.  I hope you can down here in the fall! (Hopefully after the summer heat breaks)  I moved up north for a few years and had to come back... I missed it too much.

Thesa,

I can totally relate - all my family is back east spread out in dixie.  Ga, Bama and SC.  I always miss them, especially holidays.  However, I walk out the door in Central Oregon and have a great reminder of why I am here.  I suppose if I were a good enough agent I could sell them all a house here......

Thesa, how did I miss this one?? I was so looking forward to you coming down this spring. I know it's important to take care of family and I hope your husband is doing better.

We love Texas and everytime we think of moving away it's never more than just a thought.
