35 high schools in the Charlotte region were awarded gold or silver medals by the U.S. News & World Report's 2017 rankings of the top public high schools in the country.
16 high schools in North Carolina were awarded gold medals. Five Charlotte region schools received gold medals and were ranked in the top 500 schools in the nation. 36 North Carolina high schools received silver medals, with 17 of the silver medals going to Charlotte region schools. In addition two Charlotte area high schools were award bronze medals. Two Fort Mill, South Carolina high schools in the Charlotte area were also awarded silver medals and rank in the top 10 in the state.
The U.S. News & World Report reviewed over 28,000 public high schools nationwide and awarded gold, silver, and bronze medals based on how the schools performed on state assessments, Advanced Placement® and International Baccalaureate tests, quality of preparation for college, and graduation rates. (Graduation rates among the top schools are 15% higher.)
