The Real Estate Business can be a tough business and what makes it worse....and leaves a bad taste are realtors who do not do their jobs!
Recently , I received an offer for a gorgeous condo on the water which is positive. Then disaster strikes. The offer is written incorrectly on a contract we don't accept. The accepted contracts are listed in the MLS so the realtor knows which one to use. No problem, I re-write it and then send back for all signatures. Then, none of the timelines are met by the other realtor .... who never answers her phone. She always has some type of emergency and gave her buyers my contact information. They contacted me almost daily asking me questions because their realtor was now travelling somewhere and not reachable. Buying a property can be very stressful and emotional so I choose to make myself available to calm and answer any questions or concerns that may arise. Fast forward to the walk-through and closing. The agent does not show up. I do the walk-through, the buyers are happy with their new home. and I am furious. I do all the work on behalf of this agent's clients and she does not have the courtesy to let me know that she will not be available. This agent is experienced and her behaviour is wretched. Unfortunately, unprofessionalism runs rampant in our business.
Another part of being a Realtor which can be frustrating are working with lenders. I am happy to refer business to companies that practice what they preach and when they don't that's when deals and clients can be lost forever. I gave my client's information to a lender that was highly recommended to me from someone I respect. He wanted to purchase a condo for his sister-in-law as an investment. My client said he was very busy so I waited to hear from the lender when the client communicated with him.
Following up with my client, I learned that he had submitted all the paperwork to the lender and was waiting to hear back. What happened to communication? I never heard a word from the loan officer working with him. This company is continually calling me for business. They have a list of promises they make to communicate and close the loan quickly. Normally, from mortgage companies, I receive communication acknowledging that they are working with the buyers that I referred to them, along with periodic updates. I call the Vice President of the company and still no communication from the loan officer working with my buyer. Then I find out that the loan was denied when I followed-up with my client!
Communication is everything. An old boss once said to me, "The Cream Rises to the Top" which can be said of many agents, including myself, who exemplify professionalism. I try to think of that when the opposite situation occurs as noted above. As for the mortgage industry, there are many people vying for our business. We have to keep moving forward creating those partnerships that are a win-win for everyone.
