I know, don't know, FIGURE-OUT-ABLE

By
Real Estate Agent with ReMax Realtec Group

Hello Rainers, shiners, newbies, students and all those captured by the word

FIGURE-OUTABLE.

I am Annette Lawrence, a newly christened 'RAINMAKER' here on Active Rain.

You are very likely counted amount most people who divide tasks and challenges into two groups:

  1. the things you know how to do, and
  2. the things that you don't.

But there's a third group: things that you don't yet know how to do, but that you're confident you'll be able to figure out.

This third group: "figure-out-able".  Sorry, no 'Dictionary.com' link for the definition.

Without that one word, we wouldn't take on half of the challenges that we do, because we'd be stopped in our tracks by the things that we don't know. This is such a reality in the real estate profession. (that may be what prompted this blog)

But we don't need to know them. Not yet, anyway.

We just need to know that we will be able to figure them out when the time comes.

And dear reader, most people can figure out a lot more than they give themselves credit for.

  • Big things
  • Complex things
  • Entire fields of study.

Take, for example, Vanessa Van Edwards. She describes herself as a "recovering awkward person".

If there's a field that's vast and complex, it's the field of social skills and human behavior.

But she decided to see that field as figure-out-able.

As so many will confess that participate on Active Rain, sometimes you must DECIDE to move forward and figure it out. Yes, I use the word "decided" intentionally. It's a choice.

And she did figure it out. She created the hugely successful blog and business Science of People, and just came out with a book called Captivate: The Science of Succeeding with People

It's a great book, and I believe she's a great person.

The videos suggest to me that if you meet her, you'd never guess that she was ever awkward; today she is charming, charismatic, and engaging.  Charming, charismatic and engaging.

So, let me ask you...

...if Vanessa could figure out something as complex as human behavior, what might you be able to figure out that you currently see as beyond your grasp?

Think about it.

The answer might open up a powerful new future for you.

Oh, and while you're thinking, check out Vanessa's book - it's a great resource for anyone looking to be a better speaker, manager, leader, or anything else that involves interacting with people.

Some say, real estate is a relationship business.

Some say, it is complex and every deal is different.

Some say, it requires agility and resources because every situation is different.

And every Winter Agent on Active Rain pressed forward in the dark days of Bank of America's caused recession and figured out how to complete the most complex, convoluted, illogical and highly emotional transactions imaginable.

It was Figure-out-able.

As you face your new career, your new plan, your new directive or your new market, know that it is figure-out-able and perhaps with the help of your Active Rain friends,  it can be fighured out faster than you can imagine.

Best of Success,

Everything is figure-out-able... if not by me then someone else.  It is a matter of choice and commitment.   Thanks for the thought-provoking post, Annette.
