Reinvent, Rinse, Repeat ~ A True Fairy Tale
If you want to read a story with a happy ending, here it is.
This story begins a long, long time ago. The heroine in this story (yours truly) had moved to a far away land, and didn't know many humans. She had few connections, but had years of experience selling real estate. So the fairy princess had to devise a way to earn a living to support herself for she was far away from friends and loved ones.
Since she was a stranger in the far away land, she began to scour the newspaper cover to cover. (This was a time long ago, when newspapers were in vogue). She noticed opportunities in the Classified Legal Section of the newspaper -- notices of homes being foreclosed, to be sold at the courthouse steps.
She pondered, "Could I possibly buy these homes and carve a niche for myself by fixing them and re-selling them?"
She mustered up every bit of courage she could, and approached an investor. She made a detailed presentation and asked the investor to go into business with her. To her delight and surprise, the investor said "yes".
So, the good fairy and the mortal pooled their resources and started out on their venture. It required a lot of work, researching, tracking, and bidding, until one day soon they acquired a property. Time passed and they repeated the process. The investor supplied the labor while the fairy princess listed and sold the properties.
Eventually, the investor told the princess, "I believe you are ready to do this on your own. Go and be well." So the princess secured a few properties of her own using the skills she had perfected. It was a successful endeavor and the good fairy and the investor are friends to this day.
This isn't the end of the story. Markets come and markets go. The good fairy lived through several market shifts, and each time, adapted to the market. Change happens, but creating your own niche, whatever your specialty, will get you through the lean times so you can thrive in the hot markets.
And they all lived happily ever after.
