Have a Plan

Do you have a plan for your future?  In my younger years, I didn’t plan much.  It was a “do or die” situation, especially during the times in my life I was a single mother.  Survival of the fittest was a way of life for me and that didn’t include much of a plan.  Then, life turned around.  It wasn’t any day, and it wasn’t a dramatic event.  There just came a time when paradigm shifts came along, my thinking toward life and goals changed, and if someone had asked me if I have a plan, I could have answered yes.

Life has a way of taking twists and turns you don’t plan.  Having a plan doesn’t mean you will follow it either, although, there is that adage, “If you fail to plan, you are planning to fail.” (Benjamin Franklin)  Even if you do have a plan, there may be others in your life who don’t like your plan, who don’t want you to plan or who insist on being in your plan.  Sometimes when you have a plan, it helps keep you focused; other times when you have a plan, it keeps spontaneity at bay.  Many times, there is a need to have a plan B in case your original plan falls through.

Having a career in real estate requires we have some sort of a plan.  Before you get a real estate license, all you do is plan.  Once you get the license, you change the plan.  Newer real estate agents still going through training are encouraged to have a plan, and many trainers offer help in creating a plan.  Marketing, networking, and lead generation are all part of a plan, and it does no good to plan without a plan to carry out the plan.

Life as a REALTOR® or a real estate agent cannot be successful without a plan.  Buyers and sellers could potentially interrupt your plan any day, but in the long run, you must pay attention to the plan.  If you don’t have a plan, then you don’t have goals.  If you don’t have goals, how will you know you’ve succeeded?  Success isn’t always about money.  Mike Ditka summed it up pretty well when he said, Success isn't measured by money or power or social rank. Success is measured by your discipline and inner peace.”

Having a plan helps discipline you and in turn, doing the right things will bring the inner peace needed to attain and retain your success.  Make a plan, stick to it, experience joy, be at peace.  It all starts with your decision to change your life, to create a successful real estate career, to provide better for you and your family, to give some stability and to allow some flexibility in your life, and to become the entrepreneur you were meant to be.  Take the first step and let everything else follow.  TEAM Hughes Real Estate School is here to help, so let us know when we can.
