Balance in life is so important and I think I have done a great job of keeping myself balanced.  It is difficult at times, as I don't always get to do what I want to while doing real estate because clients come first.  The struggle is that clients usually will call or email right after I start to do something I want to do or that I plan to do, haha.

It seems that if I am just doing busy work or I have nothing to do, nobody will call or email, thus I am too slow when I have time to do more, haha.  It often takes getting busy for the phone to ring with more business, so keeping a good balance is important.

My solution has always been to treat everything as an appointment and put it on my calendar.  This works very well and if I plan to hike, then I put it on the calendar and work around it.  If clients call wanting to go see properties, I schedule them in after my hike.  If someone calls and wants to go out when I have something already on the calendar, whether it be something personal or business, my answer is always the same "I am sorry, but I already have an appointment during that time".  Of course, there is always a little wiggle room and that is where I work it out in my mind and go with the most important appointment, haha.  Most appointments that I make are subject to change, especially since clients will be quick to change if they need to, so it has to work the same way for me too!

Good morning, Brian --- I find "scheduling" helps to make sure things get done -- personally or professionally.   Have a great Sunday.

Good morning Michael Jacobs , making sure everything is scheduled is good for me, even when something comes up, I can look and see if something else could be rescheduled to accommodate more immediate needs.

Hi Brian

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I think using a calendar for both personal and business makes so much sense, and it works pretty well for me, too. Some things are just NOT negotiable.

Bet I know where you are right now, or will be some time today!

Enjoy your Sunday!

Jeff

Thanks Jeff Dowler and I agree, some things need to be put on the calendar and need to remain non-negotiable!  Enjoy your Sunday too!

Brian,

So glad you worked out your balance and work.  Hiking is so healthy in terms of expanding one's point of view!  Good for you!  A

Don't I get it, Brian. I can sit at my desk for several hours and the phone doesn't ring once. The minute I get into a car and/or get with clients, it rings off the hook!

It is crazy how that works Nina Hollander , same way with dating or looking for a job.  If a person has a job already, there are offers coming left and right, but if someone doesn't have a job, they can't even get interviews, haha.

My youngest brother commented about me referencing something as an appointment, even though it was something fun.  I had to tell him why I did that Debbie Reynolds , having time for ourselves is so important.

"The stuggle is that clients usually will call or email right after I start to do something I want to do or that I plan to do, haha"  My first or second year in real estate I was literally driving up to our ski mountain fully dressed in snowboarding attire with my husband and meeting a client/friend there.  I got a call and turned around and left, wrote a contract and then met them later. I've done things like that a lot, many times I later regret it to be honest.  You always think that it's just this once, but then as it continues to be just this once over and over again you start missing out on those recreational and fun times... -Kasey

It is crazy at times in this business and most of the time, clients have to come first, especially when a contract needs to be written Kasey & John Boles
