Severe Weather has arrived in Denver

Denver usually experiences severe weather mid to late May and into June.   This includes very strong winds, pouring rain, lightning and hail.     The cities start testing the emergency towers  in early Spring, as you never know when the strong storms will begin.

Over the weekend, lightning struck two people, one is still recovering, and the other was killed while riding her horse.   (and the horse was killed)    When you hear lightning and thunder, do NOT sit under a tree, nor be outside with an umbrella.   You will be a target!

Yesterday there was golf-ball sized hail that damaged the roof of a shopping mall so much, it was flooding, and they had to close it.   It will be closed for a couple of days.   On the news yesterday, they were showing business owners in downtown Denver using snow shovels to remove all the hail from the sidewalks.    The aerial view looked like it had just snowed in Denver.

Our Western cities up against the foothills experienced the most damage, and my clients had some serious damage to their car while picking up the kids at school, and some flooding into the basement.

It was early afternoon, and my insurance agent sent out an eblast to his customers saying he is ready for the hail claims.    The lightning was fierce, as one strike had to be over my house, as the lightning and thunder happened at the same time, and sure was loud!    Had to see if my large trees were OK, but all was fine.

We did not hear of any tornado warnings in the City, as this usually happens a bit further East from Denver proper.    Seems like this will be a rough Spring season weather-wise!

Ed, I was thinking that on Monday, if it is starting this early, are we in for a couple of rough months?

Georgie Hunter R(S) 58089 when it was all finished, some newscasters said it was BASEBALL sized hail that did all the damage.    Many are looking to get their cars repaired and probably new roofs.

Kat, hail is never fun, but worse when it is larger than pea sized.  It does such damage.

Gabe, at least we did not hear of any more incidents with the lightning.  Thankfully!

Nina Hollander luckily we did not see any hail in Aurora, it was closer to the foothills in Arvada & Golden.  We did get some much needed rain.

Amanda S. Davidson it was very sad to hear about the rider and her horse, but reenforces the fact -- when you hear thunder or see lightning, take cover!

Nick & Trudy, it wasn't fun for many on the West side of Denver, and hope that severe weather stays away for a while.

Michael Jacobs I think the weather people revised it last year to only 250 days of sunshine now.

Curtis, we did not see hail in Aurora, or even by my office, but they sure got hit on the West side of Denver.

Oh geez, Joan, are you OK? You know, everybody seems to forget about the weather, because it's always "just there" until something awful happens or it turns extreme. You tend to think stuff won't happen to you. I recall driving home from work one night to examine the screens on my house, and they looked like a bear had clawed them to shreds, just from hail damage.

Hi Joan,

So sorry to hear about that weather.  I would freak out if I saw golf ball size hail come down. I am glad to hear that your insurance agent is right on top of it!  Hope everything is back to normal quickly.

Sheri, lots of damage on the Western side of the Denver metro area.  Luckily, this side was just rain, lightning and thunder.

The global warming has generated a lot of thermal energy changing our climet.

We had a light shower in Northern CA. This is June. Normally from March through late October it was always bone dry with a high ridge built up.  Not this year.  I called Reno NV today and they get what passed here.
