Denver usually experiences severe weather mid to late May and into June. This includes very strong winds, pouring rain, lightning and hail. The cities start testing the emergency towers in early Spring, as you never know when the strong storms will begin.
Over the weekend, lightning struck two people, one is still recovering, and the other was killed while riding her horse. (and the horse was killed) When you hear lightning and thunder, do NOT sit under a tree, nor be outside with an umbrella. You will be a target!
Yesterday there was golf-ball sized hail that damaged the roof of a shopping mall so much, it was flooding, and they had to close it. It will be closed for a couple of days. On the news yesterday, they were showing business owners in downtown Denver using snow shovels to remove all the hail from the sidewalks. The aerial view looked like it had just snowed in Denver.
Our Western cities up against the foothills experienced the most damage, and my clients had some serious damage to their car while picking up the kids at school, and some flooding into the basement.
It was early afternoon, and my insurance agent sent out an eblast to his customers saying he is ready for the hail claims. The lightning was fierce, as one strike had to be over my house, as the lightning and thunder happened at the same time, and sure was loud! Had to see if my large trees were OK, but all was fine.
We did not hear of any tornado warnings in the City, as this usually happens a bit further East from Denver proper. Seems like this will be a rough Spring season weather-wise!
