So, the ski hills have closed, and the sun is rearing its bright and magnificent head more and more these days, but it doesn’t mean the fun is ending in Breckenridge. In fact, nothing could be further from the truth.

Shopping and Restaurants

While this is certainly an option any time of year. The off-season is a great time to take advantage of the lack of large crowds, and enjoy all the quaint, alpine town of Breckenridge has to offer on the cheap. The town’s Breckenridge Restaurant Association counts some 60 of the area’s top restaurants and bars as members.

Each spring they offer the Spring Dining Passport for the price of a suggested $10 donation. The passport is chalk-full of unreal deals and coupons for many of Breckenridge’s top haunts. The Colorado hot spot is also home to several craft breweries and distilleries just waiting for you to sample their creative assortment of beverages.

Mountain Biking

Breckenridge is commonly described as having 3 distinct seasons: ski season, summer and mud season. Mud season takes hold after the snow have started to melt and before the beautiful wildflowers have reared their weary heads, which typically occurs by mid-June.

This is when mountain biking in the majestic alpine atmosphere is in full swing. Supply your own bike, or rent one on your way up the mountain and take a guided tour of the mountainside, or forge your own path. You’ll soon discover that the melting snow has given way to abundant meadow and miles of trails to explore.

Fishing

The waters below the Dillon Reservoir are renowned throughout Colorado for incredible fishing. Fly fish on the middle fork of the Blue River, and snag a bounty of trout and kokanee salmon. You can hire a local guide who would be delighted to point out all the best spots along the river bank, or feel free to explore Breckenridge’s rivers, creeks and streams on your own.

Although you can certainly fish year-round, it’s the spring and summer months when the fish really start hopping.

White Water Rafting

Fishing isn’t the only activity that will lure you out onto the water – the melting snow has the added effect of super-charging the rivers of Summit County. Thrill-seekers can brave the white-water rapids of the Blue River, Upper Colorado or Arkansas Rivers.
