You'd best be wearing a smile as you go thru that red light! After much heming and hawing, the City has decided to set up cameras to catch those drivers who go thru a red light without stopping when making a right hand turn.

The first installations will be at several of the busiest intersections in town. 75th street at Naper-Plainfield Road; 95th and Book Road; and at the intersection of Route 59 and I-88.

I drive on 75th street all the time as our office is just north of it on Washington, and my favorite Caribou coffee house is next to Naper-Plainfield Road at 75th. And, it's agony. There's always traffic. And trucks. Turning left or right is tricky.

And driving on Route 59? Masses of cars. Lots of stop lights. And entrances and exits to all the shopping centers located on Route 59. Truly a madhouse, especially at Christmas time.

The fine will be $100, and if not paid on-time there will be an additional penalty. But, if this stops the increase in accidents, I'm all in favor. Chicago added cameras to their streets and accidents have gone down.

So, here's to a safer Naperville!

I hate those things; but, we know where they are LOL.  A judge ruled they are legal so I guess they will remain a part of the fabric of Cleve transportation too! lol

Carole,

What's interesting is that the City of Chicago has so many cameras up and running that they can zero in on bank robbers, jay walkers and other crimes. They believe that the cameras have helped reduce crime. I suspect that they're right.

I think that we'll see 'big brother' using cameras all over the country within the next few years.

ARRRGGHH I hate those cameras!!!  We've got a few around here, I'm sure they are needed but the whole big brother issue is a little unsettling.
