This market has created self doubt in so many Realtor's. Realtor's are blaming the market, banks, interests rates, the election, even President Bush. Why would we as professionals want to place the blame anywhere but where it belongs, with us. Why do we think that what happens "out there" effects who we are and what we can accomplish. Look around, is there anyone in your market place that is succeeding, well if they are, how are they doing it? I think I may have the answer for you, they are not in an identity crisis.
When you start the question, " I am..." what follows? Is it, I am tired, I am overwhelmed, I am done. This market is going to test the very fabric of who you are, and who you think you are. It is time to to put a very powerful phrase after I am to succeed in this market. If you do not believe in yourself then who will?
My coach, Niurka, was telling me what happened with with one of her other coaching clients. They were digging deep on the reasons he was not being successful. Every excuse in the book was being thrown out, the market, the interests rates, people were on the fence, etc etc. Now mind you he is not a Realtor but a Mercedez salesman, but his excuses sound very familiar don't they. Niurka said after digging deep for almost an hour he finally blurts out, "Niurka, I am just a squirrel trying to get a nut"
Wow! Look at the words he used for his identity. He is JUST a squirrel. He is JUST trying to get a nut. Two very disempowering emotions don't you think? At least they got to the root of the problem, the problem is he lost faith in himself. Does this ring true with any of us? Niurka then took him down the path of asking when has he ever felt like a lion. He said he was the king of the jungle on the basketball court. He said he could not be beat. he would do whatever it took to win.
All he had to do was transfer that drive to his career. I am glad to say that he has, he is currently the number one sales person in his dealership. Faith the size of a mustard seed can move mountains. You must believe in your own identity. Not just say it, but fiercly and undeniably believe it. You have the God given talents to control this market, you just have to do whatever it takes to do so. that may mean knocking on one more door, making one more phone call, fire non-motivated buyers and only work with motivated ones, whatever it takes.
It is critical for us to know who we are. We must start each day knowing how to finish I am..
It easy to get in a rut. They say... There is no shame in falling down. The shame is in staying down. Everyone is the master and director of their own destiny, we choose to fail or succeed.
