Yesterday I read a post by Bobby Carroll which addressed the issue of abandoned blogs.   Thousands of well-intentioned blogs just go belly up and die every day.  We wonder where these people go, our fellow professionals, artists, neighbors, friends that we have come to know and admire through their writing.

As was mentioned in Carroll's post, there are many reasons why we abandon our blogs.  Too busy, blogger burnout, loss of interest, etc.

Take me, for example.  I've been pretty much MIA for the last few weeks now. Why, you ask?

It's for the same reason that I haven't been going to the office much lately.  After having several setbacks recently, basically, I'm Burnt Out.  Fried.  Tired Of It All.  And when I get in this mood, it's quite difficult for me to muster the motivation and creative juices necessary for writing.  Nor can I even come up with anything to write about.  I haven't even been leaving comments on others' blogs, for fear that I'll be Miss Killjoy.  I don't want to contaminate others with my crabby mood.

Day by day I make every attempt to have a positive outlook on my life, my future, my work.  When someone asks me how I am and all I can manage to do is grumble, "Things could be better", well, then, it's time for me to put myself in isolation for a while.

Thankfully, though, I feel like I might be coming out of my doldrums...not at this very moment, but soon.  The weather's improving, the flowers are blooming and our Farmer's Market has begun, a signal of fun summer days to come.

Perhaps I just needed this time "away" to rejuvenate, recharge, refocus and gather my strength for the rest of the year.  I've stepped back and taken stock of how I do my business, what I've been doing that's not working, and new methods that I need to implement.  To make a long story short, I am streamlining my businesses, and it takes time to do that.  I'm excited about the changes I'm making, both in my Real Estate business and my tea business, and am looking forward to implementation.

So no toe tags are needed yet, because my blog is not dead...it's just temporarily dormant.  It'll be back, like it or not!

I understand.  I have had a very busy spring. I am exhausted.  You get where you just don't care.  YOu are almost surviving until you can get revived.  Get some rest.

Thank you Maria. I have had my first relaxing weekend in months, I even baked bread all day yesterday.  If I go for a long time without baking I get really grumpy! I need the down time.

Lisa, welcome back. Tea and baked bread...that sounds like a good combo. Hope you're having a Happy Mother's Day! :)

Well, Welcome back! I am sure that we all get that way at times in our career and it is better to step back for a moment and breathe a bit before you jump back in!  Looking forward to reading more of your blogs!

I'm having a wonderful Mother's Day, Jim.  I truly am grateful to have a wonderful family.  Thanks for commenting.

Good luck. Take a break, a couple deep breaths ... take a class or go to a seminar to help get motivated again.

Thank you Maria and welcome back. I am fairly new to blogging. I love meeting new people and this has been wonderful.

Lisa,  You need to know that you are not alone if that is any solace at all.  There are many out there that are just simply depressed.  I've seen it among friends and it hurts me to watch them.  There other thing is you have to understand that there are some things that you can't control.  But the things that you can control are what will make or break us.  We have lots of choices and many times more than what we can see in front of our face.  I'm sure you will come out of this fine, but then that is a decision that only you can make.  I'm sure you will do what's best for you.

Well, Becky, welcome to blogging - it's great fun, and an excellent way to build your business.  Don't let anyone in your office tell you otherwise, it really does work:) Thanks for commenting.

Patrick, that is some good advice.  I've actually been listening to a lot of Brian Buffini since I haven't been going to the office.  I've noticed that the agents I know who subscribe to his way of business have weathered this real estate storm quite nicely. I've been networking a bit, that helps too, getting together with people you know and like.

In the market of today it is easy to get down, I try to write a blog or post comments every day, but sometimes I dont feel like it.

Lisa,  I think we all get burnt out at some point or another.  Especially, when deals fall through and you are feeling a little discouraged.  Glad to see you back.

Hi Marc! Thanks for the words of encouragement.  I've missed AR!

Sadly, there are a lot of people facing tough circumstances right now.  The state of the economy, along with everything else, is weighing down on me a bit right now.  I've been getting overwhelmed by the sheer amount of work that needs to be done in both of my businesses, while at the same time dealing with decreased cash flow and increased expenses.  But I have faith that everything will work out fine...:)

Bart, I applaud you for being able to blog so frequently.  It really is an awesome (and free) tool that should be utilized to its highest power.  Cheers!

That's very true, Jimmy.  I wish all my deals could fall apart in one day so that I could take a couple days to get over them and move on. But the last couple of months have been like, once a week like clockwork.  Just when I'm getting back on the horse something else would happen, and it's been extremely frustrating. Not to mention the short sale I sold back in February still does not have bank approval...

Hi Lisa, glad to hear you are coming out of it. I have a paper in my office that I read every day. It talks about attitude. Attitude is based on 10% of what happens to us and 90% on how we handle and react to the 10%. It says mor ethan that, but that is the basics of it. I read it every day and it helps to keep me focused.

Dave

Dave, I totally agree with that.  Your attitude is one of the few things over which you have control.  That's why I get frustrated when I get down in the dumps because it is so counterproductive!!

I guess now's as good a time as any to link to the funny video that I forgot to put in my post, just to lighten the mood a bit.  Funny cat videos always cheer me up!

Lisa, I've missed seeing your posts, my gem ;)

When I get to feeling overwhelmed, I have a tendency to just shut down.  I want to sleep and do mindless things that don't utilize any brain power.  It's funny though...when doing mindless tasks, you allow your mind the freedom to analyze, take a situation and look at it from every side...find a solution to what your next step should be.  Stepping back, taking a breather.  Nothing wrong with that.  And you know we will be here waiting for you when you return full steam ahead.

05/12/2008 09:16 AM by Lisa Heindel, New Orleans West Bank Real Estate (Latter & Blum Inc. Realtors)

Lisa, that's exactly what I was feeling...overwhelmed.  And yes, along with the crabbiness was the total lack of brainpower.  It's so great to come here though and know that you guys understand! Thank you for your support.

LISA - I thought that I could never burn out, but it did happen.  Of course, it coincided with being busy, and I just didn't have the energy to keep up with everything, spend time with the family, and post and comment.  It's a constant balancing act, in my opinion.  I enjoy being here, but sometimes, a break is needed.  Good to see you back.
