Winter's over & Summer's right around the corner! This means vacations, weekends and more outdoor activity. We in the Northeast, are ready for warmer weather & the feel of the Sun on our skin.
Now, I don't know about you, but, before my hair (what's left of it) turned white it was flame red and I have a body full of freckles. Perfect target for sunburn and skin damage. My skin can burn on an overcast day! It's just my skin's predisposition. I've had several severe sunburns in my younger days so I see a dermatologist on a regular basis. My most recent encounter has been to receive "blue light" treatments on my noggin to remove some lesions and Sun damaged skin.
"The Fitzpatrick Skin Type is a skin classification system first developed in 1975 by Thomas Fitzpatrick, MD, of Harvard Medical School. His skin classification system and its adaptations are familiar to dermatologists. In order to determine your Fitzpatrick Skin Type, our quiz measures two components (genetic disposition and reaction to sun exposure). Types range from the very fair (Type I) to the very dark (Type VI)."
So, take the quiz to find out your skin type and what steps you should take to protect it. My Fitzpatrick score was 4.
So, it's hats for me and lots of a high-quality sunscreen SPF 30+. I wish you each sunny & great summer in the sun. Protect yourself AND, don't forget to put sunscreen on your ears!! I was out on the ocean fishing, wore a baseball hat and slathered myself in sunscreen BUT forgot my ears...OUCH!!
