SPAM or Good Policy

I was looking into ideas as to develop a loyal community of readers for a blog and one of the tips I bumped into said, email those who make comments to your blog. Since we're relatively new to this blogging thing, I thought it might be best to confirm if this is an ideal suggestion or strategy to follow.

I'm just a little skepical of emailing, as there may be some SPAM implementations. Is blogging and comment posting treated differently. The article went on to say email responders would also have a viral aspent as so they might spread the word of your blogs content to their friends who may also be interested in your offerings.

Is emailing posters good behavior or an practice in SPAM?  What is a good strategy, from your experience?

spam is only bad if you are getting something that you are not looking for.  It is good if you find something that you might like if you see it.

I send emails to people who comment on my blogs if it is realvant or something I would like to share but keep it private.  I think most of us in the Rain are willing to accept emails from fellow AR members.  After all, these are typically people we trust and are not perceived as spammers.  We don't see it as a problem because we usually have a name and face to go along with the email.    I can see why Need A Notary would have this question as neither a name nor picture is given in the profile.  If this company is going to pursue the email comment tactics it may want to reconsider the transparency of it's blog.  AR is a social networking site.  It is hard to network with a logo and a company name.  I hope this answer helps determine if emailing is appropriate for Need a Notary.
