As I was thinking about Mothers Day and my Mother who passed over 25 years ago ....almost on Mother's day, I was reminded of another group of Mothers.

This must be an especially difficult time for the Mothers who have childred deployed in Iraq and Afganistan.

We all have that fleeting sense of worry when our child leaves the perceived safety of home but brush it aside with the notion that nothing bad is likely to happen... and we busy ourselves with other things. But to have a child in a foreign land , where you know the people want to harm your son or daughter....must be terrifying. It must permeate your daily thoughts and really weigh you down

I can only imagine the daily ritual of checking email or waiting for the post. And the feeling in the pit of the stomach if nothing comes

I can only imagine that last goodbye trying to be brave and cheerful but dying inside.

I can only imagine trying not to listen to the latest news report...but hanging on every word.

I can only imagine.....goodbye

So for every Mother out there who's children are not there to put your arms around...my prayers are with you, my thoughts are with you. I share your fears. I share tears.

There but for the grace of God......

Blessed Mothers Day! May your Babies be home soon!

Joni, I'm sure that many of our brave men and women guarding our freedom in foreign lands are just as concerned about their loving mothers worrying too much at home.  May they all come home safely.

Happy Mothers Day.

What a wonderful thought.  Yes, it must be so very difficult with children may be in harms way or far away.  Here is a prayer to keep them safe and have them return homes soon!

Joan, the sense of the unknown with a child in war has got to be a churning stomach feeling. We can only offer up our prayers until the day when they are safely home again.

Hi Joan, A very beautiful sentiment. Besides the war, parents loose their children to so many other things in life today. Auto accidents, drugs, shootings, gangs and there is no one worse than the other, because they are all so horrible and heartbreaking. I hope this day was special for you.

Joni,
How heart wrenching is must be to send a child off to places like Iraq and Afganistan and Mother's Day must be very difficult.  My heart goes out to these Mothers.

I hope you enjoyed your Day.

A gracious, selfless gesture to offer the emotional "space" and TLC to the mothers of Armed Forces personnel. Years ago my wife's aunt started a support group for mothers of clergy in the Catholic Church. Such a simple idea, such a global reach. Jean is gone now but her mission lives on!

Well done, Joan, well done ;)

Hello Cynthia...It must be such a difficult thing...to act supportive and brave when your dying inside!

05/12/2008 02:56 PM by Joan Mirantz- Concord New Hampshire Realtor (Keeler Family Realtors)

Thank you Andrew...I am sure they also have a strong support group..but I don't think you have to be the parent of a service person to relate to what they must be feeling...you only have to be a parent!

Motherhood is a tough thing - you love them , train them and then send them off into the world. A piece of our heart goes with them.

Joan,

I often think of how hard this would be for the families who have sons and daughters in war zones.....everytime another plane brings home more bodies of fallen soldiers, just down the road from me at CFB Trenton, my heart goes out to the parents, particularly the Moms, since I have 3 sons who are young men myself. I can't even imagine how difficult it must be....

thank you for writing such a thoughtful and caring post.

I agree Kathleen...I also think all Mothers have an incredible ability to relate and empathise with each other!

Jo...I remember when my friends son died-a violent death- I couldn't let my mind go there. Every time I would try to put my thoughts in her place....my mind wouldn't let me! It was just too painful!

That is how I feel about the soldiers Moms....
