I see it every now and then:

Blogging doesn't work.

ActiveRain isn't getting the job done.

I used to rank better and didn't need to work at it nearly so hard.

And maybe it's true to some extent.  Maybe ActiveRain doesn't launch you straight to Page 1 the way it did 9 years ago...when there were just a handful of real estate bloggers in any local market...if there were even that many.

Now it's a lot easier to broadcast to the world, and blogs aren't the only mechanism.  Pinterest, videos, Instagram, Twitter, Facebook and 43 more I probably haven't even heard of yet, but that each grab their share of the consumers' attention.

So it takes some extra effort now to get found and get those calls, but it's still possible, even probable IF you are willing to do what needs to be done.

Blogging regularly is just part of the recipe for us.  By no means does it have to be daily or whatever the max number of posts that get ActiveRain points.  Some posts are out there just for entertainment value and others are meant for the long term.  The longer the term a post will be effective, the better.  And if you can pair those long term posts with self-refreshing content...HELLO IDX pages!!...you're publishing potential goldmine posts.

Today we listed a great condo in one of our hotter markets.  Now whether the seller found us from the IDX page or a blog post about that subdivision, the bottom line is she found us, liked what she saw and wasn't interviewing any other agents.  Isn't that what we all dream about?  And our main post about that community was written almost five years ago.  Work then, payoff now.

So how do you get that business?

Understand your target audience and what they want AND aren't getting anywhere else.

Write to that target audience.

OFTEN.

With solid quality content. 

Respond quickly when the consumers reach out. 

Yes, it's work, but you've got a lot of other voices to beat, so you better get started!
