No matter the weather this weekend (and we are expecting rain, let's see if it materializes), take a short ride to neighboring Georgetown for some delicious home-style Mexican food and check out their Memorial Day celebrations. Thinking margaritas? This is the place you'll want to put on your list for dining out this week-end!

Mexican traditions are the basis for the architecture of El Monumento; the grounds showcase the plants of rural South Texas and Mexico. The restaurant is a modern design with 4 separate dining areas – an open kitchen, an interior courtyard, a terrace that overlooks the Blue Hole Lagoon and a dining pavilion with glass walls that overlooks the courtyard. Texas Monthly says that “when you stroll through the lush landscape of the sleek yet rustic patio, you’d think you were walking into an oasis…the adjacent El Bar serves up a variety of craft cocktails.”
Forbes Travel Guide says “ The place also takes margaritas so seriously that their bar features a teal, hand cranked Japanese shaved ice machine used to create a mound of soft snow from a large block of ice. Bartenders then add 100 percent blue agave blanco tequila, all natural triple sec and freshly squeezed lime juice, creating a citrus-infused, salt rimmed adult snow cone.” Now, that will cool you off on a hot TX day! Speaking of cocktails, their El Bar makes all their cocktails by hand with an attention to detail from house made syrups to the fresh hand squeezed juices that are used. They use new processes like the cold smoking drinks and nitrogen that create instant infusions like jalapeno vodka. There is also the 8 hour margarita that is actually an 8 hour process where Don Julio tequila and Cointreau diffuse through a hopper filled with lime and orange supremes, lime and orange zest, lemongrass and sugar. The result is bottled in a glass vial and is served in frozen martini glasses rimmed with salt crystals.
When you are ready to dine try the Campechana Parfait – with a fiery tomato salsa, avocado crema, shaved cucumber, radish and Texas gulf shrimp. Or you might like the Queso Panela Frito – crispy fried Panela cheese with chipotle ranch. Their signature menu features Grilled Camarones Zarandeado – grilled Texas gulf shrimp, sriracha aioli, avocado crema and roasted onion. There’s also Asada El Mon – marinated and grilled beef, chicken and shrimp fajitas with rajas and a side of onions, guacamole and pico de gallo. Finish the night with some Mexican flan or a slice of El Rey chocolate cake.
