Probably one of the most exciting aspects of my profession is handing the keys to a 1st time homebuyer. Together, we’ve finished your real estate process and found you your very first home. But really, your journey is just beginning! After all, as a homebuyer in Southwest Florida, you’ve become part of our community, and you’re going to love what it offers.

Still, owning your first home comes with its own set of challenges. Now, don’t let that scare you. Even though your property has its responsibilities, it also has its rewards. And when you’re prepared, you’ll be able to tackle each one without worry. Of course, I want to make that journey as easy for you as possible, so my team has put together this list of must-haves for any 1st time homebuyer in Southwest Florida.

The name of a trusted plumber

No matter the age of your SWFL home, there’s a chance that you could have a plumbing situation within the first 5 years. It could be a minor backup or something requiring a bit more attention. But when you have the name of a reliable plumber ready to go, all you’ll need to do is place your call. If you need a recommendation or two, let me know.

A hose, a lawnmower, and gardening gloves

Taking care of the yard is a pastime that many Floridians enjoy. Although you can buy plenty of gear to care for yours, these 3 are must-haves. This way, you’ll be set for watering, mowing, and pulling up a weed or two if necessary.

A new set of locks for your doors

Many of my clients like to swap out their locks for new ones. This way, you can guarantee that you have the most updated models, as well as peace of mind for your new SWFL home.

Shelves for your new garage

Before you know it, that new garage will be filled with items. Get a head start on keeping it organized by picking up a new shelving unit from Home Depot or another home store.

A unique conversation piece

Another often overlooked must-have is a conversation piece. Once you’re in your new SWFL home, you’ll likely want to have family and friends over. Whether it’s a contemporary piece of art or a quirky vintage piece, a conversation starter is the perfect way to highlight your new home.

An emergency beach bag

Okay, this one really is just for fun. But you’ll find it’s true: many residents in Southwest Florida have emergency beach bags. After all, when you live in paradise, you never know when the urge might hit to jump in the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico!
