Avoiding the Poof…  a few work arounds for the photo issues.

“Okay so I was posting to my blog and like Poof… it disappeared”.  “Bummer”.

Okay so this issue has been around for a while, yet many are still having a tough time dealing with it, so tonight I will offer a few ways to deal with it.

A few are seeing the nasty dog, and a few are just getting an error message.

One thing to keep in mind is that Bob Stewart and the rest of the folks who work hard behind the curtain are working hard on this issue and will be getting it fixed soon.

But until then, these solutions should help with the issue.

Actually there seem to be 3 issues.

  1.        The Featured Listing Bug
  2.        The Featured Photo Bug
  3.        The New Photo Bug

1. The Featured Listing Bug.

Since the last big update, AR cleaned up the right side of your blog and got rid of the list of featured listings on the right side.

Unfortunately, when you are posting your blog, the box to feature the listing on the right side is still there and checking that box will cause your post to disappear.

Just don’t check this box and your post will work just fine.

2. The Featured Photo Bug

Intermittently when we try to post a featured photo at the top of our blog post, it will cause it to crash.

The best way around this is to publish your post without the featured photo, then go back and add it later.

Just click that blue edit pencil at the top, insert your feature photo now and it may work.

Sometimes this will work, sometimes it will prompt an error message, but at least your post will still be intact.

Try this again in a few hours and it may post the feature photo then, or just live without the feature photo.

3. The New Photo Bug (btw, to view these diagrams in higher detail, right click and select "view image")

The third bug seems to be in trying to upload a New photo into the AR photo uploader (Responsive Filemanager), and a few work arounds that seem to help include.

Use an old photo that is already in your collection of uploaded photos.

Or, load a link rather than a photo.

To do this simply upload the photo somewhere else on the internet such as your webpage, facebook, pinterest, or just about anywhere else that you can upload a photo.

Right click on the photo, copy image location, then go to your post and upload a link rather than a photo.

Paste the link to the image location into the source box in the "insert/edit image" box.

Hopefully these work arounds will help until things get back to normal, and please feel free to give me a call if you have any problems.

I had to use this last night.  I had bookmarked it and upon photo problems yesterday I can back to read the work arounds.  Got it posted, but I'm still going to try to upload the photo today because I don't really want the photo as a link for good. -Kasey

Haven't experiened these problems, thanks for sharing. I have a feeling I will need to refer to this post. One thing I've learned is to "save" as I go along. After every paragraph, I also "save".

I appreciate the description of how to work around post a photo bug.

Sometimes technology takes more time than it saves. Every tip is appreciated.

I've had all the described problems. All of them at intermittent times. So, I now write my post in MS-Word, than I post it, and try not to feature an image.

And this until I hear better...

Thanks for the hacks, but hopefully Bob Stewart and company can simply fix these issues once and for all or remove the buttons to the permanently broken features on AR? It's been months for many of these issues.

Hi, Bob! I'm back, after a long, long time! And trying to get back in the habit of blogging. So many changes, and yes, I did encounter a posting error...had issues for a whole day before I realized I might want to pull off the featured photo. Tried to go back in and edit it to reload, and it still wouldn't take it. Is there a size requirement? I need a refresher course on the current RAIN patterns (ha-ha). Can't remember where to go to see the schedules again??

Sometimes it does help to reduce the size, but mostly it helps to just wait a bit.

Try posting completely without the photos, then go back and insert them.

I wish I had read all of your post and remembered it!  I just put up a post and didn't save it - I tried uploading the photos but that didn't work, so I thought - okay - I will just go with a featured photo - which uploaded, but I wanted to see how it looked before I went final with it - so instead of any of the other things I could have done - I published thinking I could edit afterwards - well .... you know what happened - gone forever! Oh well! next time! thanks for the work around suggestions though - I will remember what you say better next time!

Hi Tracy Santrock , I thought that this issue was resolved shortly after I wrote this, but when posting last night I noticed that the problem is back.

We will have to be patient a bit longer as they fix fix fix.

have a great day

okay i will try the link thing... seems to me it would be easier for all of us if AR would update their method of uploading photos... most uploads you can go to your pictures and upload it without saving it first them coming back to it like AR  Seems to me it would help AR to not try and keep all of our photos in their cache. they can still control size

The feature picture is just wrong.. a tease... not worth the time... anyhow thats how i feel about it... I love photos but why go to the trouble of putting them on our blog if they wont show up?

thank you for you great answer... I am rebloggin it because I think it is really helpful!
