Buffalo

RISK MANAGEMENT

Something you don't see everyday is buffalo. I shot this photo on Friday evening, May 19, 2017. I just left my clients who were driving their own car from a property we saw in Justin, Texas. One of her final words to me before we went our separate ways was this feels like home...

FEELINGS ARE NEVER ENOUGH

As I was driving down the country road, alone with my thoughts, I saw a buffalo and a car pulled over along the side of the road. My immediate concern was were they okay? Torn between wanting to stop the car to take a photograph or ask if everyone in the car was okay, I chose to drive along side the car and stopped to ask if they were alright. I didn't recognize the car; however I knew immediately it was the family I left a few minutes ago. Thankfully, they were okay and she was doing the same thing I wanted to do - take photos of the buffalo! After realizing they were alright, I got my shot and waved goodbye.

OH GIVE ME A HOME WHERE THE BUFFALO ROAM

While looking in the rear view mirror, the car was still there. It didn't move. They were savoring the moment. I knew they weren't interested in buying the house we saw. It's not that it wasn't the right one, it just wasn't the right location because the Seller's Disclosure noted the property is in a floodway. Their daughter, former military who was also experienced, working at the US Army Corps of Engineers' Philadelphia District was able to explain the difference and why it wouldn't be a smart investment. Knowing your risks is something everyone must take responsibility for before making any major purchase.

We have a herd of buffalo up in Genessee which is just outside of Evergreen.  People flock there to witness those big beautiful animals.

Hello Patricia  Feager,  I have seen some people get to close to Buffalo up in Yellowstone and I have seen one put his head in to a fender of a truck of people that were trying to touch him thru the window.  dumb.

Hi Patricia

What a clever way to introduce the subject of risk, something any prudent buyer must consider, whether it involves buffalo or not.

Great shot!

Enjoy your Sunday!

Jeff

Patricia,

There is a beautiful Buffalo farm on our way to visit one of the prettiest wineries, and they are beautiful creatures.   Your point about knowing your risk is excellent and is what everyone should do when making a large purchase.  Happy ?Sunday.  ?A

Ron and Alexandra Seigel - I do my best to learn and share my findings. Getting the facts and knowing the risks first before spending the money will be more valuable than the idea of wanting something just because you want a home.

Thank you.

Good morning, Patricia -- whenever possible, a second visit and the opportunity to think over a decision to buy is best in my opinion.

More than one tourist has attempted to "pose" a buffalo for a shot, including one hapless soul (I believe it may have been in Yellowstone) who actually kicked a snoozing buffalo to get him to stand up.  Score Buffalo: 1,  Touron: 0.  No, he didn't survive the buffalo's response. Talk about not understanding risk assessment!

Sounds like they know the area that they want to be in, even if the home they saw wasn't the right home!

Hi Patricia - Buffalo have become very common around here - it's great to see them making a comeback. But we also have regular problems with tourists who don't respect the power and unpredictability of these magnificent animals.

Hi Patricia!  Well, it sounds like they know where they want to be but, just need to find the perfect spot that's not in a flood zone! Their daughter working with the US Army Corp of Engineers really did open their eyes to what they DON'T want - made them more aware of their risks, for sure!

Best of luck with these buyers and keep taking those buffalo photos - lucky you to be able to see them; we don't see them at all here!  Have a fantastic week!

I live near Yellowstone and every year there are stories of tourists trying to pet Buffalo (Bison, actually) or get close enough for a "selfie" with one. They end up gored, trampled, or tossed into a tree. People think they are just big cows.
