What is Pétanque? First it is pronounced pay-TAHNK and second it’s usually played on hard dirt or gravel. It can be played on any surface just like bocce and bowls. Now how do you play Pétanque? It’s a form of boules. While standing with the feet together in a small circle you throw metal balls as close as possible to a cochonnet (jack).
Believe it or not on May 21st 2008 the current President Arsene Dupin and a group of friends formed The Heart Of Texas Pétanques Club! After moving to Austin from France, Arsene found he really missed the sport and started searching around town for others who might be interested! Imagine his surprise when he found a few players at the French Legation Museum!
He spread the word and taught the game to others until there were enough players to form a club. These players are from all walks of life and are enthusiastic players! You can find them playing at the French Legation, Pease Park, Paggi Square and the Mueller Browning Hanger. If you’d like to play you're always welcome to check on the site for games available.
Austin embraces diverse sports, customs and traditions. If after moving here you don’t find something dear and near to you just search for other like minded individuals. They are here and ready to embrace something new!
