Whispering Angel: A Splendid Rosé For Celebrating Memorial Day!

By

Whispering Angel is the suggestion of Walt, our other wine maven in Santa Barbara.  This is a French rosé from the Provence area, occasionally refered to as the Rosé from St. Tropez.  Here are the winemaker's notes:

"An irresistible pink! Charming, refreshing, refined, and with plenty of juicy, enticing, strawberry and berry fruit. This is a rosé that should be in everyone’s cellars, without exception. Drinkable is an understatement and you’ll keep on coming back for seconds… We defy you to resist."

This wine has consistently rated in the 90's.  The price range for this wine is between $17-21, depending on your wine merchant.

Enjoy Your Weekend !  Cheers,  Ron & Alexandra

Love the name and the look of the bottle. Whispering Angel seems well priced, as well. Have not seen it around my parts and will have to keep my eyes open.

Myrl Jeffcoat I learned from our time in Napa, that wine aging in barrels evaporatess, and that evaporation is known as the Angels Share.  I have always loved the concept, so the Whispering Angel made sense to me.  We really enjoyed the wine.  It needs to be lightly chilled,  Enjoy the weekend.  A

Nina Hollander it is definitely one of the best rosés wines we have had.  It is best lightly chilled.  I served it with fresh local swordfish grilled on the barbecue with vegetables.  It was perfect.  Enjoy Colorado, and I wish you great weather.

Good morning A.  Since you've tried this I have a question.  My wife and I like a semisweet or sweet wine.  Does this one fit the bill?

Hi Alexandra and Ron -- I have never claimed to be a wine connoisseur but I certainly appreciate a wine that is "drinkable".  Cheers!   Oh by the way, that's a lovely bouquet, Mrs Cleaver....

James Dray If you like sweet or semi sweet, the German wines from Alsace are in that range, reisling, gewurtztraminer.  We are not fond of sweet wines, so my expertise is limited unless we are talking dessert wines, which are Sauternes,  Talk to a wine merchant, they can guide you.

Michael Jacobs "drinkable" is a term that means it has aged enough.  French Bordeaux and Burgundy are not realeased until they are, and in some cases can use more time in the bottle.  Napa lately in order to please the Chinese market has been making "drinkable" wine.  They are blends, rather than a single grape like Cabernet Sauvignon, or Pinot.  This rosé is a 2016, and is a blend of grapes, which make it "drinkable"!  Mrs. Cleaver would love it.  LOL  A

The marketing and branding for this wine is superb! It can be used for many special occasions and would make great gifts too! I would love to taste it myself!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Patricia Feager I loved the branding and marketing on this one.  The owner of the company is a savvy winemaker and marketer.  To promote the wine in the ski resort of Courchevel, they buried bottles in the snow at a party there.  Wishing you a delightful Memorial Day A

Joe Pryor I do remember Tavel.  This Rosé is absolutely lovely and I would serve it with a mild curry dish of shrimp.  Last night we had grilled local swordfish and vegetables, it was the perfect pairing.

On the bubbly front, our wine expert friend from Napa brought us a rosé brut from Domaine Carneros (owned by Taitttinger).  It was exceptional, and on the French side forget the Billecart Saumon (pink)Champagne ($$$), and go Dom Ruinart Rosé $20 less and so great!

Hi Ron & Alexandra - Thanks for the very timely suggestion - rosés, along with proseccos and vinho verdes are what we mostly drink in the summer, and that looks like a very good one.
