This year, the Daytona Beach police explorers got creative in their fundraising. They decided to sell police caricature T-shirts, depicting our police officers as the "Scumbag Eradication Team".
This is great! LOL. And apparently I'm not the only one who thinks so. The police explorers originally only printed 300 of the T-shirts that say "Scumbag Eradication Team. Not in our Town!" Those 300 shirts all sold within 3 days. So another 250 were ordered, and again sold right away. I have no news on how long the program will continue.
The Explorer team, and now the accompanying T-shirts serve the purpose of helping teens, aged 14-19 learn about careers in law enforcement. I read in a local new article that the idea actually came from the father of Police Chief Mike Chitwood, who is the police superintendent in Pennsylvania. Apparently father and son, liberally use the word scumbag to define criminals. And Superintendent, Mike Chitwood Sr. ran a variation of the same program a couple of years ago.
As usual, there are critics who say the shirts send the wrong image, but overall, the program has been a huge success in paying for the uniforms of the Police Explorers.
Whatever your personal feelings on the T-shirt, it's good to know that education is being offered to teens and our local police are on the job.

Lisa, I like the concept of the T-Shirt, I'm sure it is quite the topic of conversation.
