Recently I posted a recipe on my blog.  It was a recipe that I created and really enjoy and I figured that I would share it with the readers of my blog.  We all veer off topic every once in awhile.  Later when I checked my points summary, I noticed that the points had been removed and I was pointed towards a policy.  When I tried to find out what policy I violated, I could not get to the policy.  Yesterday, I posted a happy mothers day message to the ladies in the active rain community who are mothers.   My points summary said tha I received no points because my message was under 50 words.

So I ask  the question IS BLOGGING ALL ABOUT POINTS?  I say no.  I will continue to share with my readers things that I find of interest....points or no points.

What do you think?

It is nice to receive the points and is a bummer when they take them away...I am going to have to check out that recipe though;)

You should share what you want, that is your right but I do think others see the time and effort as a reward system they want to see points for the time they send on their projects.

It is not about the points.  Write what you want but make sure you post in the proper places.  Points are nice but shouldn't be your goal.  Getting your name and information out there is the focus.

Well the points are what keeps me on the google search list.  Therefore yea the points do count.

I've lost some points due to short posts or more than 10 in a week, ect.

I've also been directed to the policy and haven't been able to get to it. I think if blogging helps you build your business, then its good reguardless of the AR points...

I just checked out your recipe -- Dang, that does sound good.  I agree if you added a few introductory sentences about how you came up with the receipe, and how people you've served it to react, etc., etc., you might be able to resuscitate the points.

I wonder what would happen if a bunch of readers went back to that post and marked it worthy of "Feature".

For newer people, just in case you don't know, you do this by clicking the little flag icon beside the word "Bookmark"

Then check the box labeled "Feature"

It does sound like a great recipe.  Do you serve it with rice?

I enjoy watching my points accumulate and watching myself climb up in the ranks, so I definitely like points.

But they're not the only reason I'm here.  Active Rain is not a contact sport.  Let people get to know you.  If cooking is a big part of your life, post recipes.  Post your memories about food.  I'll bet you had a mom or grandma who was a dynamite cook and who inspired you.

Just (please God) don't post a bunch of statistics that take 5 minutes to scroll through.  That's my pet peeve.

Cheryl,

Thanks for the information about the feature info and the suggestion to add a few introductory sentences.  I will try that and see what happens

Karen,

I usually serve this recipe over rice.  It's a cross between the chinese shrimp with garlic sauce and the more common shrimp scampi.   Thanks also for letting me know that I can share the memories. I have great stories about my mom, grandmom & dad who all influenced my love of cooking.

Leander, Good Point. Your blog is about what you want to say and not the points. Kudos for the recipe and the mothers day message. But I will say this, the points promote participation and challenges other Realtors to think out of the box to differentiate themselves... sounds like a good topic for a blog post... Active Rain Blogging What is it really about

Thanks for the inspiration. All the best
