It's going to be a great weekend in the Chicagoland area! Plenty of sunshine for people to come out of their caves and start going out into nature. For those that love fresh produce, grass fed meat, and innovative arts & crafts its a great time to go out and visit your local Farmer's Market.
In my hometown, Oswego, IL we have a weekly market every Sunday! I have been lucky enough to visit and enjoy the many different vendors that come and bring us their produce, unique products and the sense of community that going to the markets bring. I try to hit different markets throughout the summer from Geneva's French Market to Aurora's markets at the West Galena strip mall and the Metra station.
My year's of working in Chicago's Loop allowed me to go to one in front of the Picasso and the State of IL building where I bought fresh flowers and home made jams & jellies and trekked with them back to the uber suburbs.
So no matter where you may be in Illinois there is a farmer's market close to you...if not...there are plenty of local farmer's stands that you can find on your travels through little known towns away from the metro areas. Click on Illinois for a list of farmer markets.
The point is - support local farmers during the summer months - less of a carbon footprint - a better quality of food and the chance to get to know your neighbors in person instead of Facebook, Instagram and other social media sites. What more can you ask for to make our summer's complete!
