Mention the words Southern California and many think of our beautiful beaches and terrific weather. Some others things too, but we won’t get into that.
Beach life in the Carlsbad area of Southern California IS something special. And with the massive coastline we have, you are hard pressed to not find a beach that you are particularly fond of, or a view that does not take your breath away. And being the beach lover that I am, I cannot imagine not living near one, and as a REALTOR the opportunity to help others find a Carlsbad home near the beach is a particular pleasure.
The beaches and ocean provide a means of income for many – the coast guard, life guards, and many others who help to care and maintain them, and photographers and painters who revel in their beauty and capture it in various media. They also provide much enjoyment for relaxing or reading, a source of recreation and sport (volleyball, surfing, parasailing, hang gliding, windsurfing), and so much more.
Our beaches are constantly changing due to wind and surf, and many individuals are dedicated to their preservation, and attempts to control erosion, such as the California Coastal Commission and the Surfrider Foundation.
Access to the beaches varies enormously, but in most areas parking is free and so all can enjoy the beauty of the ocean and the shoreline. And there are even some access points for folks who have physical limitations and use wheelchairs. Because of the many bluffs, some beaches are only accessed by steep stairs, or perhaps narrow winding paths, so enjoyment for many must be from a distance.
There are many things that come to mind when one speaks of beaches. Certainly the sound of crashing waves and sparkling light entrances many who venture to the coast.
Enjoy this little visit yourself to the beach and listen to the waves.

Beaches mean sea birds, surfers and surfing culture, incredible sunsets, and fascinating designs and colors in the sand. They mean stairs and paths, palm trees and a myriad of other vegetation. Seaside restaurants or dining on the sand is a particular pleasure for many. Playing in the water and building sand castles is something any child or adult can identify with. Lifeguard shacks stand like sentries along many beaches, and the ever-hopeful individual with the electronic device seeking treasures in the sand.
Beaches also can also signal danger, and warning signs may or may not be present – tsunami warnings, shark attacks, stinging jelly fish, devastating waves from storms and earthquakes, eroding bluffs that can collapse without warning, pollution from humanity, red tide and more.
Beaches and the ocean never seem to fail to entrance, whether you are a casual visitor, live on or near the beach, or perhaps visit via book, movie or photos.
Here is a tour of beach life I have collected over time. I hope you enjoy it (beware, there are about 100 photos).
