Rural or City or Freeway Driving - Save a Life !

I was curious about Arizona driving statistics as I just returned from another harrowing 60 minute round trip circuit.

Traffic and road construction, safety

Road rage and impatience run rampant on our roads. I mean that collectively of course - on America's roads... Folks from LA find our one freeway and narrow main streets laid back!

But as a regular and daily driver, the near-misses and close calls and dangerous drivers out there - well they bear paying attention to.

In looking at statistics, I could only get 2015 numbers.

Driving Safely in Arizona

(2015 Motor Vehicle Crash Facts for the State of Arizona prepared by ADOT, Published June 1, 2016)

These numbers are up from previous years - but then again, so is our population.

Adding additional facts, for Arizona - the most dangerous holiday seems to be Thanksgiving. Most crashes occur on Fridays, and most fatalities occur on Saturdays.

So, just as a sit-up-and-take-notice, let's try to drive a little less aggressively, a little more defensively, and way more intelligently.  That same person you just cut off in traffic was probably the person you let go ahead of you in the grocery line.

I find common courtesy almost everywhere in this friendly town.  Let's extend it to our driving.

Cara, this is such a good reminder to us all. It's very easy to get caught up in the moment, but let's keep a broader view of things. Does it really matter that someone just cut us off and we don't like it? No, let it go, let them go and get out of our way as quickly as possible. Miami driving is horrific!

Cara I am one that is not in a hurry and often let others into traffic - and I also steer clear as soon as I can of erratic drivers - just let them go by and stay safe.

Good for you.  I'm great so long as I leave early...otherwise I get disturbed by other drivers.  Mostly, it's a game of avoidance, and awareness!

I witnessed an incident of road rage yesterday.  A guy in a little Mini Cooper was playing chicken with a guy in a pickup.  It's best when you find yourself involved with a rager, to simply slow down, take a deep breath, and let them go by.

You know that kind of thing is so so rare where I live. (rural central Georgia), but there was just a murder on 285 (the Atlanta loop) that made the news last week. It makes me nervous when I have to drive there, not because of the car and the traffic the potenial nutbag driving those cars.

I see more deer than cars in my neighborhood.

I used to live in the rural areas outside of Green Bay, WI.  Lots of stop sign running - not so much rage. Used to have lots of drunk drivers too, but they've cracked down and prosecute a lot more I think.  Once in a while we hear about awful freeway stuff taking place up in the Phoenix area too.  Changing world....
