Dealing with Dumb Decisions

Services for Real Estate Pros with Referral Group Incorporated

Sometimes decisions are made that come back and bite you. There is no way to know that a good idea today could turn out to be a problem or disappointment later. Things just happen and often it is difficult to really think through all the pluses and minuses until you are dealing with the reality. So then, what do you do when you have to deal with dumb decisions?

Having made more than my share of dumb decisions I have found that there are essentially two choices: accept that you made a mistake and move forward or eat your heart out and shut down.

Life is short and time is too precious to live with regret. Very little that we do can impact us more than playing the same sad song over and over again. So I have found both personally and professionally that the only thing I can do with dumb is to get smarter, and try and remember that lessons learned have value.

I am a Poster Child for dumb, but better. This year has provided opportunities for me to challenge myself and I have been dealing with doubt. So one day I just decided that I would be OK because it was my best choice. No one is perfect and I am content to do the best I can with the decisions I can not change.

I agree with you Sheila Anderson. We learn and grow from these experiences and nothing is gained by worrying or obsessing over them.  Learn and move ahead.

Learning from our mistakes is the only way to not repeat them.  And honestly, it is the best way to learn to have make a mistake.  Learning from experience is powerful.

Hi Sheila,

I am a firm believer that the glass is always full.  Even when there is only an ounce of fluid, the rest of the volume is air!

Sheila I have earned a Doctoral Degree from the lessons I have learned from the dumb decisions I have made.  I rarely make the same dumb decision twice, and for me moving on and keep going forward is the only choice.

Why people beat themselves up is beyond me but some people are hell bent on not only making horrible mistakes but reliving them over and over. Learn your lesson and let it go. Or better yet, learn from somebody else's mistakes.

Something I quit doing years ago is second guessing too many times then beating myself up about it. It does not serve a good purpose.
