Sometimes decisions are made that come back and bite you. There is no way to know that a good idea today could turn out to be a problem or disappointment later. Things just happen and often it is difficult to really think through all the pluses and minuses until you are dealing with the reality. So then, what do you do when you have to deal with dumb decisions?
Having made more than my share of dumb decisions I have found that there are essentially two choices: accept that you made a mistake and move forward or eat your heart out and shut down.
Life is short and time is too precious to live with regret. Very little that we do can impact us more than playing the same sad song over and over again. So I have found both personally and professionally that the only thing I can do with dumb is to get smarter, and try and remember that lessons learned have value.
I am a Poster Child for dumb, but better. This year has provided opportunities for me to challenge myself and I have been dealing with doubt. So one day I just decided that I would be OK because it was my best choice. No one is perfect and I am content to do the best I can with the decisions I can not change.
