After I finished the banana pudding cake and tried it, I have to say it was disappointing. The cake itself was good as I said in an earlier blog. But once I added the toppings and tasted it, it seemed that the banana pudding somehow took away from the good taste of the cake.
After the dry run, my advice would be to bake the cake and serve it plain or add icing or whipped topping to it.

Well it is good you did a trial run. Maybe you can come up with a glaze or filling that will bring out the flavors not take away.
I think I'm going to just make a banana pudding and layer it in a trifle dish with a regular yellow cake. My daughter thinks that sounds good.

On the flip side using people as first time testers is a great way to have more chances people you are not crazy about don't come back too often. I like to look at the silver lining in life.
Lloyd, As a gift for Father's Day for my son-in-law, I'll be making a regular yellow butter cake and layer the banana pudding on it in a trifle dish. I will top it with home made whipped cream.

Hi Gabe Sanders, I made another one today, combining my grandmother's recipe for banana cake with my banana pudding recipe and whipped cream on top of it. I think it turned out much better.
