My son had to do a project for school the other day. In it he was asked to explain in detail what he would do if he were king for a day. The rules and caveats were simple. He was king of the US. He had no one to answer to, not even a set of laws. He could do whatever he wanted. I read his essay and was pretty impressed by it. Kids have a great sense of fairness and openness that we tend to lose as we get older.
I started thinking about what I would do if I were king for a day. I have to admit that this assigment has been tough for me. I feel very strongly about a lot of things, but do realize that there are two sides to every issue. Being on the bad side of an issue would be tough on my subjects I sure would not want to hurt anyone with a "bad" ruling or decree. Also, one day is pretty short and I would have to work quickly. After seriously considering a few of my own ideas, I do have a new found respect for our leaders. It is a very tough job. I am still working on my "king" ideas.
What would you do if you were king, or queen, for a day?
