Clematis Flowers and White Picket Fences in Kentlands
A high percentage of the homes in Kentlands, our home community within the City of Gaithersburg, Maryland, have white picket fences. At this time of the year, Clematis vines and colorful flowers can be seen on many of the fences. Clematis flowers are available in many colors and sizes and it fun to photograph them during photowalks through the neighborhood.
For out of the area readers, Kentlands is a favorite area for home purchases by families relocated to the Metro Area of Washington, DC. Commuters use the Ride On bus service that is available from Kentlands to the Shady Grove Metro Station.
Subhash Sharma "These cute Clematis flowers come from a genus of about 300 species within the buttercup family Ranunculaceae. Their garden hybrids have been popular among gardeners, beginning with Clematis × jackmanii, a garden standby since 1862; more hybrid cultivars are being produced constantly. They are mainly of Chinese and Japanese origin. Most species are known as clematis in English, while some are also known as traveller's joy, a name invented for the sole British native, C. vitalba, by the herbalist John Gerard; virgin's bower for C. viticella; old man's beard, applied to several with prominent seedheads; and leather flower or vase vine for the North American Clematis viorna."
