There are so many people these days who don't look up nearly enough.  They are missing out on life.  Whatever is on their phone is obviously more important than what's in front of their face ...  at least that is what they think!

Going Off the Grid is fantastic!  I honestly hadn't intended on doing so this past weekend  but on Friday night our power went out for a few hours so that kind of forced me to just STOP!  We took out lots of candles (which we haven't done in quite a while) and listened to music off an ipod and our fabulous wireless speakers. Of course we just had to open a nice bottle of Cabernet too!

Saturday came along and after volunteering at the North Mountain Visitor Center in the morning and enjoying lunch with friends - well - I just didn't feel like getting back online and posting market reports.  So I didn't!  And of course Sunday was Fathers Day and we had plans that took up the entire day. Then Monday came along and I was busy with clients all day getting flips ready for market. By the time I got back home I said - I'm done - I'm Going Off The Grid!  And here's the kicker! I didn't feel one bit of guilt for saying adios to blogging for 3 entire days.  In fact, it was a really good thing for me unplug from being online.

Seriously I think most of us these days are addicted to checking our phones - CONSTANTLY - as well as going on FB etc etc etc...

Going Off The Grid

I saw a joke last week where all the people in a restaurant were on their phones looking down. That joke got me to  start thinking about how we all have become addicted to being online in one form or another. Think about it - isn't that exactly what we see around us every day, people looking down at their phones?  Sure is in my world and it's kind of crazy, isn't it?

I did find myself wanting to check my phone - often. But I pretty much forced myself to just STOP THAT!!  I knew all was fine in our business world and if anybody needed something they'd text me or call so why on earth did I need to keep checking my phone? I didn't, it had simply become a habit, a bad one. A habit I'm happy to say - BYE BYE - it's been fun but it's over!

So here's the challenge for you should you be willing to play!  Start  by becoming aware of how often you check your phone, facebook or whatever. Is that really working for you? Is that creating and building relationships with the folks right around you.  Be honest with yourself.  Are  you one of those looking down folks? It's really interesting to become aware of just how MANY folks are looking down all around you! And I'm guessing it's going to stick out like a sore thumb to you now. Try it.....and let me know what you discover about you - and all the folks around you.

Belinda, I've been off the grid for the last three days due to a visit to my mom's house. It's so far out in the country the internet reception is almost non-existent! I'm back to work today but I'll admit, we are ALL to engrossed in our phones and constant stimulation that we need to unplug and walk away every now and then.

This is so true.  It's the modern day ailment.  And we sure didn't see this coming 20 years ago.
