Small Town Wisconsin Soldier, Ashland Wisconsin Mural Series
I found this interesting mural just across the street from the Library in Ashland Wisconsin and like all public art, I had to capture it in a photo.
At first I was not that taken with it, but the longer I looked at it the more my mind raced and pondered on the people in the painting.
So many different times, so many branches of service, so many different wars.
And yet these are just a small portion of those who have served from this town.
No doubt that everyone pictured here represented a real person from this town who left home to serve our country as did everyone with a star around the outer edge of the painting.
They left small town Wisconsin to travel somewhere far away, to suffer unknown dangers and hardships.
How many never came home?
How many survived but could not reenter small town Wisconsin after the experience?
How many came back and are the people you meet each day, serving in the businesses and other organizations that keep a small town running?
As with so many historical portraits, often more questions are generated than are answered.
More murals to come…
