The seller's referred me (buyer's agent) instead of their selling agent...to a new customer!

How strange is this?  I brought a buyer to the table (the deal closed).  The seller's actually referred their friends to me and not their agent.

While I appreciate what they did, I felt bad for the listing agent.

The listing agent was a nice person, perhaps not as aggressive as I can be at times. But, I feel bad.

Do you feel bad if this happen's...maybe not.

A customer is a customer, a deal is a deal!

Did this ever happen to you? Did you feel bad? Or did you take it as a compliment?

What did you do? What did you say? To make the future deal, go your way?

Just curious.

Karen- Take it as a compliment. There is a reason they're not referring the listing agent, he or she may be a nice person, but something must have happened.

Kevin,

I think it had to do with the fact that this agent (with as many year's experience that she has) didn't know where to tell her seller's to sign...Oh well, we all have that moment.

Bragging or complaining... I'd take them and run and not tell the locals if I didn't have too.

Sean,

Did it, listed it, then again, the customers we'ren't not that compliant. So was it a good thing...not sure, however, I appreciated their referral.

Greg,

Neither, the referral's spent way to much money fixing up their home in the neighborhood and wanted way more than would sell in there.  Then they called and said they rented it out themselves and wanted out of the contract....They took down my sign, removed the lock box, and even though I had many potential buyer's, they didn't call me back...so was it worth it...not sure.

Thank you, I did.  It was tough though, this was a really nice agent.

I haven't had that happen, yet.  I'd take it as a compliment, though.  I'd feel bad for the listing agent, but I'd also be very thankful...  :)

Debi,

You know it. I did take it as a compliment, I felt bad for her as well b/c she is a wonderful agent and seasoned.  They just didn't want to listen to her.  She was right on and I like her...

Rick,

I guess,  I am a little more aggressive than the other agent, but she is a very nice woman.

I think it is a compliment.  Once I represented a buyer.  The day of the closing the Sellers attorney called to say he had forgot to order title and we could not close.  4 deals were dependanton that closing.  I ordered title. convinced the title company to close the deal afetr hour and convinced everyone to wait til our closing was over to fund their deals.  I had referals from the Seller and the listing agent.  When you do you job well it shows.  People notice.  Take the compliment and enjoy the moment.

Karen:

There's no reason to feel bad. Most likely this is an agent who is concerned with dual agency (rightly so in my opinion). Other agents can be a great source of referral business, especially since they know the agents they'd like to have on the other side of the table. Don't feel bad, feel flattered. You are a true professional respected by your peers.
