The homes in Hollywood Lakes are built on large lots ranging from 50, 75, 80 and over 100ft. One of the visions of Joseph Young was to have the homes built around green public space so people can walk, play, bike ride and enjoy the parks lining numerous streets. Many still exist today. The garages were built originally to the rear of the lots . In the back of the homes were also alleys for trash removal, maintenance and access to the many apartments and in law quarters built in the rear of the homes. In the older neighborhoods of Hollywood Lakes, the electric lines were placed in the back so the view of the street and homes was uncluttered.
